January 13, 2025 at 08:13 in reply to: AxCrypt does NOT deleted unencrypted files C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\AxCrypt #40569Hello Dan K,
The location(C:\Users\’user name’\AppData\Local\AxCrypt) is for the temporary decrypted copies of the files. Those will either be cleaned automatically at the earliest opportunity or when you click the red clean “broom” icon in AxCrypt.
AxCrypt works by decrypting files temporarily and then launching the appropriate application for the decrypted file, which thus is entirely unaware of AxCrypt. AxCrypt monitors the system for the launched app to exit, and when it detects this it will re-encrypt the file and wipe (overwrite) the decrypted file and then delete it.
Please close the encrypted file and corresponding file, Please check the AxCrypt app every time, it will update the file, it’s then you can sign-out/exit from the AxCrypt app.
Note: The temporary files will be removed as soon as the opened encrypted file closed/signed out from the AxCrypt app.
If you have any questions, please write an email to support@axcrypt.net.
Hello
Please check the proper file extension. Then open the encrypted file without any issue.
AxCrypt app encrypt file(s) with the .axx extension. AxCrypt encrypted files have their own file structure and AxCrypt app only can interpret and open those file(s). That’s the way AxCrypt was designed. Other than .axx extension files, can’t be opened by the AxCrypt app. No other application(s) can open the AxCrypt encrypted files.
Still, if you are facing any Query/issues, please provide more information about the issue and screenshots and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net.

Please close the encrypted file and the corresponding file, Actually, we have to close the file opened application completely, to update and re-encrypt the file. Sometimes, we have to manually click the red Broom icon, to clean and update the pending files.
Note: The temporary files will be removed as soon as the opened encrypted file is closed/signed out from the AxCrypt app.

December 19, 2024 at 12:31 in reply to: Encrypt entire contents of folder including sub folders #40075Hello Decosta,
AxCrypt Secured Folder: AxCrypt secures files, individually. However, you can designate folders as ‘secured’. The folders will be monitored for new files, and AxCrypt will secure all new files with a single click, or when you sign out.
AxCrypt Re-Encryption with a Broom icon: If the file in fact is located in a folder designated as “Secured”, it will soon be re-encrypted again since those folders are monitored for unencrypted files and will encrypt them when you sign out, or click the “Broom” clean up icon.
Include Subfolders: You can encrypt a folder by using Secured Folders option. After that if you create a subfolder, it won’t re-encrypt the files of subfolder.
We can include the sub-folder by enabling the feature from the AxCrypt app menu File | Options | Include Subfolders. By default Include Subfolders will be disabled. So Sub-folders are not encrypted without enabling this feature.
If you have any questions, please write an email to support@axcrypt.net.
Hello Dan,
AxCrypt secure your file and changed to .axx extension. If the files are having an “.axx” file extension, then the files are secured/encrypted with the AxCrypt app.
For example: your file name xyz.txt(original extension) after encryption your file name xyz.txt.axx(after encrypt using AxCrypt)”. but you are renamed wrongly the file extenstion like that.”xyz.txt”. So please change the proper file extension. Then open the encrypted file without any issue.
Still, if you are facing any Query/issues, please provide more information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net.
