    Hello waheed,

The error message indicates that the file simply is not an AxCrypt file – it checks the first 16 bytes for a unique value.

Most often, this error occurs because the file is not produced by AxCrypt, but rather a different kind of file accidentally renamed to end with .axx. Another scenario is that it is a left-over after a previous decryption was interrupted at the stage where the original is overwritten.

Another scenario is that it is a left-over after a previous decryption was interrupted at the stage where the original is overwritten. The most common reason for this happening is that the file was damaged because of early removal of a USB drive, or a disconnected network drive.

If the file is actually damaged to this extent, no, it can’t be fixed. The data is just not there to decrypt it.

If the file was recovered from any recovery software then please check the file structure to make sure that the file was not corrupted by using the AxCrypt menu option(Debug |Check file). You can see all OK in the check file summary, if the file is valid.

If the file was damaged, then try to use the Try Broken File feature. Yes, We have a feature called Try Broken File. With that, we are able to decrypt the corrupted AxCrypt encrypted files by navigating the menu File | Options | enable Debug from the AxCrypt app.

Now you are able to see the Debug the menu in the AxCrypt app. From the debug menu you have to click Try Broken File.

Now you will be prompted for file selection. Select the corrupted encrypted file and then AxCrypt will try to decrypt the file. If successfully decrypted, then you are able to see the decrypted file in the location. Otherwise sorry to say, AxCrypt can’t decrypt that file.

    Hello Ruben Chevere,

You might want to try and decrypt with an older version. You can download from https://www.axcrypt.net/support/legacy-downloads/ .

That would indicate that the file has been damaged somehow,  My guess is the file has been damaged.

If the above doesn’t help, please write an email to our support team support@axcrypt.net.

    Hello Pierre,

The location(C:\Users\’user name’\AppData\Local\AxCrypt) is for the temporary decrypted copies of the files. Those will either be cleaned automatically at the earliest opportunity or when you click the red clean “broom” icon in AxCrypt.

AxCrypt works by decrypting files temporarily and then launching the appropriate application for the decrypted file, which thus is entirely unaware of AxCrypt. AxCrypt monitors the system for the launched app to exit, and when it detects this it will re-encrypt the file and wipe (overwrite) the decrypted file and then delete it.

Note: The temporary files will be removed as soon as the opened encrypted file closed/signed out from the AxCrypt app.

please close the opened encrypted file and corresponding application properly. After Closing all the opened  corresponding application properly or click the broom icon from the AxCrypt app to re-encrypt the updated files. We have to close all the instance of the encrypted file(s) opened application.

If you have any queries, please feel free to contact our support via  support@axcrypt.net.

    Hello C.C. Wang,

You can download the most recent version from https://account.axcrypt.net/Download/AxBruteForce.exe   and read of how to use it at https://www.axcrypt.net/axcrypt-brute-force/. Please note that we cannot provide support beyond this.

AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.

    Hello Zoltan Schreck,

    Apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Open Secured- this feature is used to open the encrypted file.

AxCrypt is a file encryption software. But AxCrypt has a feature called Secured Folder which provides the convenience to the users, to secure more than one files in a single operation. You can encrypt the Drive/disk folder/file(S) using AxCrypt Secured folder features.

AxCrypt Secured Folder:  — AxCrypt secures files, individually. However, you can designate folders as ‘secured’. The folders will be monitored for new files, and AxCrypt will secure all new files with a single click, or when you sign out.

I think you have to click the File|Option|Clear All settings and reset or switch user or local cache files. that is the reason your recent file are cleared. otherwise, AxCrypt does not disappear the files.

If the above doesn’t help, Please explain the more detailed(step by step) information about the issue also some screenshots. we are trying to find the issue and fix the issue as soon as possible. Also you can write an email to our support team support@axcrypt.net.

    Hello Stefan,

We have literally hundreds of thousands of users a succeed in signing in, both using the app and the web.

I think you perhaps are not careful enough when you type the password – or you are not aware that upper and lower case characters are different, and spaces and accents are significant when typing the password.

I suggest you use the ‘show password’ option in both the web and the app, and ensure that what is type is truly identical. This means having the same casing, the same spacing, the same umlauts and accents etc. The following passwords are all different:

    Not4real!Secrets

    not4real!Secrets

    not4real! Secrets

    nôt4real!Secrets

    not4real!Sècrets

AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.

If the file was encrypted with a different password than your sign in password, then you have to enter the file password while viewing/decrypting the encrypted file.

Still, you are facing any issue, please provide detailed information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net. We are happy to help you.
