    Hello Matt,

AxCrypt will keep track on the opened encrypted files, to update and re-encrypt the same. If we opened the file and updated the contents, then AxCrypt will re-encrypt the updated file.

The location(C:\Users\’user name’\AppData\Local\AxCrypt) is for the temporary decrypted copies of the files. Those will either be cleaned automatically at the earliest opportunity or when you click the red clean “broom” icon in AxCrypt.

AxCrypt works by decrypting files temporarily and then launching the appropriate application for the decrypted file, which thus is entirely unaware of AxCrypt. AxCrypt monitors the system for the launched app to exit, and when it detects this it will re-encrypt the file and wipe (overwrite) the decrypted file and then delete it.

Note: The temporary files will be removed as soon as the opened encrypted file closed/signed out from the AxCrypt app

If you have updated the contents of the encrypted files and which is pending for re-encryption, then please check the folder(C:\Users\”User Name”\AppData\Local\AxCrypt)If you found any subfolders inside the AxCrypt folder take a back up of those folders, please clean the local cache by the below-described way.

Please try to clear the AxCrypt local contents by clicking the Reset button in the sign in dialog or via the AxCrypt file menu File | Options | Clear All Settings & Restart.

still, If you are facing any issues, please write to Support@axcrypt.net. we are happy to help you.

    Hello Gurol,

AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.

If you think you almost know the password, we have simple software allowing you to try to find your password, and you can download the most recent version from https://account.axcrypt.net/Download/AxBruteForce.exe and read of how to use it at https://forum.axcrypt.net/axcrypt-brute-force/. Please note that we cannot provide support beyond this.

Unfortunately, if you do not know the password for an AxCrypt-encrypted file you cannot open it, even if you can sign in to the account. This is by design, it’s just this situation that AxCrypt is made for and it works like this even if you actually are the original owner of the file.

So please try to remember the file password(which was used in the encryption process) to decrypt/open the old encrypted files.

If you do not remember the password to your account, you can always reset it. This is not a way to recover encrypted files! It’s only to allow you to sign in to the AxCrypt app and web. The new password will be used to encrypt new files. Go to https://account.axcrypt.net/Home/PasswordReset to do this, or you can also go there from AxCrypt with File | Options | Password Reset.

For more info about Password Reset: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6whtjSb3pc and https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/password-reset-axcrypt/

    Hello Ryan,

We do not offer the option to change the install location. The reason is that too many users choose unsuitable locations, such as removable drives.

AxCrypt encrypted files are still encrypted with .axx extension only, after deleting/uninstall the AxCrypt app from the system.

Please note: AxCrypt account and AxCrypt app are required to open/decrypt the AxCrypt encrypted files. without the AxCrypt app  we cannot decrypt the encrypted files.

you want to be able to decrypt the encrypted files on any system using file password(which was used in the encryption process).

If you are facing any issues, please write to Support@axcrypt.net. we are happy to help you.

    Hello Jack,

1.No, You can decrypt the encrypted files on Pc B using a file password(which was used in the encryption process).

Do you have installed both(1.x and 2.x ) the AxCrypt app versions in your system? If yes, please uninstall the AxCrypt 1.x  version then restart your machine/system. now install the latest version(2.x) in your system.

Please Note: You cannot have both AxCrypt 1.x and 2.x installed at the same system.

    2. Do you have tried to install the AxCrypt portable version or installer version in USB?

you can use the AxCrypt portable version in your USB. you can decrypt/open the previously encrypted files with file password(which was used in file encryption).

3.No need to uninstall the AxCrypt app in your Pc A. you can use the AxCrypt portable version in your USB. you can decrypt/open the previously encrypted files with file password(which was used in file encryption) or encrypt the new file.

still, If you are facing any issues, please write to Support@axcrypt.net. we are happy to help you.

    Hello Tim,

We are stopped developing new features and fixing issues for the legacy version(AxCrypt 1.x). we will not be actively developing 1.x, nor will support be a priority.

Your decrypted file is moved or deleted in that location. so please check the correct file location then decrypt the encrypted file.

As per your screenshot, you can select the file in AxCrypt local cache folder.

Note: The temporary files will be removed as soon as the opened encrypted file closed/signed out from the AxCrypt app.

Still, if you are facing any issues, please write to Support@axcrypt.net. we are happy to help you.

    Hello James,

AxCrypt encrypted files should have a file extension “.axx”. Also, default application for the file type “.axx” should be AxCrypt app only.

If the AxCrypt app is not configured as a default app for the file extension or no other apps are mapped to the file extension.

Might be, the default application is not mapped for the file extension “.axx” in your system. So please change the default application to AxCrypt for the file extension for “.axx” with the help of following links,

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028161/windows-10-change-default-programs or https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/18539/windows-7-change-default-programs.

You have using the AxCrypt portable version in your system. Please use the installer version.

Download the latest version 2.1.1598.0 of the AxCrypt app(installer version—AxCrypt-2-setup.exe  file from our official website (https://forum.axcrypt.net/download/ ).

Still, if you are facing any issues, please write to Support@axcrypt.net. we are happy to help you.

    Hello Ax,

We have tried to recreate the same scenario with our local environment. But not able to recreate the same.

Please try to clear the AxCrypt local contents by clicking the Reset button in the sign-in dialog or via the AxCrypt file menu File | Options | Clear All Settings & Restart.

Now log-in to the AxCrypt app with the latest(new) password. then you can activate the offline mode.

You have enabled the option Always Offline( File |Option |Always offline). Then check installed AxCrypt app changes to offline. Now you can use the AxCrypt app in offline.

Still, you are facing any issue, please provide detailed information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net. We are happy to help you.
