    Hello bob,

AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.

If the file was encrypted with a different password than your sign-in password, then you have to enter the file password while viewing/decrypting the encrypted file.

For example: Try to encrypt a file with your AxCrypt password and then reset your AxCrypt account password using the Reset Password Feature. Now if you open the encrypted file, you will be prompted to enter the file password (which is used for the encryption of the file).

We will explain more about, what is the local mode.

You might be using your old AxCrypt password(which is different from the one that exists in our account server) to sign in to the AxCrypt app.

If users use an old AxCrypt account password to sign in with the AxCrypt app, then the AxCrypt app will warn the user with local mode warning text.

You can also use the AxCrypt app in local mode. However, the currently used sign-in password will be used to encrypt the files. We do not suggest the users use it in local mode unless any special cases.

So, Please use your latest password to sign in with the AxCrypt app(internet-enabled) without any issues.

Please try to clear the AxCrypt local contents by using the AxCrypt file menu File | Options | Clear All Settings & Restart or clicking the switch user button in the sign-in dialog

still, If you are facing any issues, you can feel free to contact our support via support@axcrypt.net.

    Hello Martin,

AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.

If you think you almost know the password, we have simple software allowing you to try to find your password, and you can download the most recent version from https://account.axcrypt.net/Download/AxBruteForce.exe and read of how to use it at https://www.axcrypt.net/axcrypt-brute-force/ . Please note that we cannot provide support beyond this.

Unfortunately, if you do not know the password for an AxCrypt-encrypted file you cannot open it, even if you can sign in to the account. This is by design, it’s just this situation that AxCrypt is made for and it works like this even if you actually are the original owner of the file.

So please try to remember the file password(which was used in the encryption process) to decrypt/open the old encrypted files.

If you do not remember the password to your account, you can always reset it. This is not a way to recover encrypted files! It’s only to allow you to sign in to the AxCrypt app and web. The new password will be used to encrypt new files. Go to https://account.axcrypt.net/Home/PasswordReset to do this, or you can also go there from AxCrypt with File | Options | Password Reset.

For more info about Password Reset: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6whtjSb3pc and https://www.axcrypt.net/blog/password-reset-and-axcrypt

A final note: Do not forget your password, or you will lose your encrypted file and always keep a backup of all your important files, encrypted or not.

still, if you have any queries, please write to Support@axcrypt.net. we are happy to help you.

    Hello Dale,

Yes, You can achieve the same. AxCrypt is a file encryption software with no backdoor. AxCrypt do not store users’ information or file/folder information or password in our server, instead it will keep the users’ basic information like Email address, IP Address and more. To know more about what stored on our server, please check our privacy policy- https://www.axcrypt.net/information/privacy-policy/.

    Hello Dale,

If you are using the AxCrypt app offline/online you need to sign in every time. Currently, there is no option to disable the ‘sign in’ every time you open axcrypt.

still, if you have any queries, please write to Support@axcrypt.net. we are happy to help you.

    Hello Dale,

If the file was encrypted with a different password than your sign in password, then you have to enter the file password while viewing/decrypting the encrypted file.

While viewing the encrypted file (having different password than your sign in password), you have to enter the file password. If you enter the AxCrypt account password instead of the file password. So you need to enter the file password.

    For example:

Try to encrypt a file with your AxCrypt password and then reset your AxCrypt account password using Reset Password Feature. Now if you open the encrypted file, you will be prompted for enter the file password (which is used for encryption of the file).

The above situation happened to you.
