    Hello DavidH

There is one option, first decrypt all the encrypted files. Next, you can use the latest password to sign-into the AxCrypt app. now encrypt the files using your latest password. after encrypting the file, you can use the same latest password to decrypt the files.

AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.

If the file was encrypted with a different password than your sign in password, then you have to enter the file password while viewing/decrypting the encrypted file.

For example: Try to encrypt a file with your AxCrypt password and then reset your AxCrypt account password using Reset Password Feature. Now if you open the encrypted file, you will be prompted for enter the file password (which is used for encryption of the file).

The above situation was happened for you. So please enter your file password(which is used for encryption) then try to decrypt the encrypted file.

If the above doesn’t help, please write an email to our support team support@axcrypt.net.

    Hello Ann,

No, Currently, the AxCrypt app don’t support for third party integration.

AxCrypt app encrypt file(s) with the .axx extension. AxCrypt encrypted files have their own file structure and AxCrypt app only can interpret and open those file(s). That’s the way AxCrypt was designed. Other than .axx extension files, can’t be opened by the AxCrypt app. No other application(s) can open the AxCrypt encrypted files.

    Hello Stewart ,

This might be because of problem with a dot net framework or some other third party applications are not allowing the AxCrypt app to run.

Please check whether your operating system has dot net framework 4.5 or above? If not please install the same. You can download the dot net framework here, https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30653 .

Also Please try to check any firewall or antivirus software’s are blocking the AxCrypt app or not? If blocked, please add the AxCrypt app in the app’s whitelist. Then restart your system and install the AxCrypt app.

Then uninstall the AxCrypt app and restart the system then install the latest version of the AxCrypt app. Now install the AxCrypt app and try to start AxCrypting…

If the above doesn’t help, please write an email to our support team support@axcrypt.net.

    Hello bhuwnesh,

AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.

If you think you almost know the password, we have simple software allowing you to try to find your password, and you can download the most recent version from https://account.axcrypt.net/Download/AxBruteForce.exe and read of how to use it at https://www.axcrypt.net/axcrypt-brute-force/ . Please note that we cannot provide support beyond this.

Unfortunately, if you do not know the password for an AxCrypt-encrypted file you cannot open it, even if you can sign in to the account. This is by design, it’s just this situation that AxCrypt is made for and it works like this even if you actually are the original owner of the file.

So please try to remember the file password(which was used in the encryption process) to decrypt/open the old encrypted files.

If you do not remember the password to your account, you can always reset it. This is not a way to recover encrypted files! It’s only to allow you to sign in to the AxCrypt app and web. The new password will be used to encrypt new files. Go to https://account.axcrypt.net/Home/PasswordReset to do this, or you can also go there from AxCrypt with File | Options | Password Reset.

If you are asking any Queries, please write to Support@axcrypt.net. we are happy to help you.

    Hello Mike,

You can try this. Please check the folder(C:\Users\’User Name’\AppData\Local\AxCrypt). If you found any subfolders inside the AxCrypt folder, take a back up of those folders. Then clean the local cache by the below described way.

Please delete the folder (C:\Users\’User Name’\AppData\Local\AxCrypt) to clear the local cache and starts the AxCrypt app like a new.

Then uninstall the AxCrypt app and restart the system then install the latest version of AxCrypt app.

If the above doesn’t help, please write an email to our support team support@axcrypt.net.

in reply to: suggestion for renaming files to original #29807

    Hello John,

    Thanks for your suggestion.

AxCrypt allows you to rename the encrypted files into random names to hide the file name from others.

We can hide the file names with random name, by using the Anonymous Rename feature. AxCrypt app having a feature called Anonymous Rename, This feature helps us to rename the selected encrypted files into random numbers(The original file name can’t be seen).

To rename the encrypted files to random: Use the menu option File | Anonymous Rename in the AxCrypt app and select the files. Now we can see the selected files renamed into random numbers.

We can also do the same from the windows explorer by select the folder or file(s) and choose the right click context menu options AxCrypt | Rename .

We can restore the renamed files into original name by decrypting those encrypted files or using the menu option File|Rename to Original in the AxCrypt.

If you are asking any Queries, please write to Support@axcrypt.net. we are happy to help you.

    Hello Angel,

AxCrypt will keep track on the opened encrypted files, to update and re-encrypt the same. If we opened the file and updated the contents, then AxCrypt will re-encrypt the updated file.

So after editing the encrypted files, we have to click the broom icon from the AxCrypt app to re-encrypt the updated files. We have to close all the instance of the encrypted file(s) opened application.

And the AxCrypt app will be checking whether the opened file and the corresponding application are closed or not? If closed, then the AxCrypt app will automatically update the contents of the file and re-encrypt the same.

Actually, we have to close the file opened application completely, to update and re-encrypt the file. Sometimes, we have to manually click the red Broom icon, to clean and update the pending files.

Please close the encrypted file and corresponding file, Please check the AxCrypt app every time, it will update the file, it’s then you can sign-out/exit from the AxCrypt app.

your files are pending to re-encryption in this location(C:\Users\’User Name’\AppData\Local\AxCrypt). please check this location. if you find any file you can copy the content and save the content in the original file.

The location(C:\Users\’user name’\AppData\Local\AxCrypt) is for the temporary decrypted copies of the files. Those will either be cleaned automatically at the earliest opportunity or when you click the red clean “broom” icon in AxCrypt.

AxCrypt works by decrypting files temporarily and then launching the appropriate application for the decrypted file, which thus is entirely unaware of AxCrypt. AxCrypt monitors the system for the launched app to exit, and when it detects this it will re-encrypt the file and wipe (overwrite) the decrypted file and then delete it.

Note: The temporary files will be removed as soon as the opened encrypted file closed/signed out from the AxCrypt app.

If the above doesn’t help, please write an email to our support team support@axcrypt.net.
