Hello michael,
AxCrypt 2 works just like your email software or most other password-protected systems. You sign in once and remain signed in until signed out. Just like you can read many emails without entering the password every time, AxCrypt will do the same. The files are still encrypted, but your password is remembered until you sign out of AxCrypt.
AxCrypt stays signed in until signed out, just like most similar applications such as your email. Once signed in, you can read, write and update information without having to re-enter the password, until signed out. AxCrypt will automatically sign out when the screen saver goes active(based on the Inactivity Sign Out configuration), or you can sign out manually.
I think you have used the Inactivity signout features, to sign out the AxCrypt app on certain time interval of inactivity. Also you can sign out the AxCrypt app, when opened the encrypted file(s). Now AxCrypt will ask the user to enter the sign in password to sign in to the AxCrypt app. For Inactivity Sign Out, File | Options | Inactivity Sign Out | Choose duration in minutes.
Please note: Inactivity Sign Out is s premium feature.
Still, if you are facing any issues, please write to Support@axcrypt.net. we are happy to help you.
Hello JOSÉ LUIS ,
Thanks for your ideas. We are discussing it with our team.
Sorry to say, AxCrypt does not support the browser extension.
We do not have any plan to develop the Linux, but right now there is no official support for Linux in AxCrypt app.
Hello Charles Tanner,
“Please avoid sending a same query in different mediums. You may get duplicate response.”
After purchasing Premium, you will need to sign out and then sign in again in the AxCrypt app and it will automatically enable Premium feature. Sign in to the AxCrypt app with the internet connection. Because AxCrypt app will try to sync your subscription details from our secured servers to your local machine.
Internet is Required for the first time of login after creating account or purchasing Premium/Business Subscriptions or resetting the account password via the AxCrypt account site. Because AxCrypt app will try to fetch your subscription and account details from our secured servers to the locally installed AxCrypt app.
If the user’s system is not connected with an internet(offline state), then the AxCrypt app don’t know about your recent purchase or account/subscription updates. So After purchasing Premium, you will need to sign in to the AxCrypt app with internet enabled.
You can manage your AxCrypt account and subscriptions by signing into our AxCrypt account site https://account.axcrypt.net/ .
Or You can download the AxCrypt app latest version from our official website: https://forum.axcrypt.net/download/ (please ignore if already download)
Before uninstall, Please try to clear the AxCrypt local contents by clicking the Reset button in the sign in dialog or via the AxCrypt file menu File | Options | Clear All Settings & Restart .
Now install the AxCrypt app in your system then Sign in to the AxCrypt app with(internet connection) your AxCrypt credentials.
Still, if you are facing any issues, please write to Support@axcrypt.net. we are happy to help you.
Hello Daniel,
This might be because of some other third party applications are not allowing the AxCrypt app to run. Please try to check any firewall or antivirus software’s are blocking the AxCrypt app or not? If blocked, please add the AxCrypt app in the app’s whitelist.
If you have updated the encrypted files contents and which is pending for re-encryption, then please check the folder(C:\Users\”User Name”\AppData\Local\AxCrypt). If you found any subfolders inside the AxCrypt folder, take a back up of those folders. Then clean the local cache by the below described way.
Please delete the folder %LocalAppData%\AxCrypt(C:\Users\’User Name’\AppData\Local\AxCrypt) to clear the local cache and starts the AxCrypt app like a new.
Then uninstall the AxCrypt app and install the latest version of the AxCrypt app. You can download the same from our official website: https://forum.axcrypt.net/download/ . (if already download, please ignore it).
Now install the AxCrypt app and try to start AxCrypting……
If the above does not help, Please send the complete error report with some screenshots of the exceptions, so that we will try to troubleshoot the same as soon as possible.
You can also send the complete error report to troubleshoot the issue. Please follow the detailed instructions to take the complete error report: https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/send-complete-error-report/
Still, you are facing any issue, please provide detailed information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net. We are happy to help you.
Hello AndrewC,
Please explain which AxCrypt version do you have used? If you are using the old version, please use the latest version AxCrypt app and try to decrypt the file again.
Please check your operating system has any pending updates. If any, please update.
Also please check whether your operating system has dot net framework 4.5 or above? If not please install the same. You can download the dot net framework here, https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30653 .
Then uninstall the AxCrypt app and install the latest version of the AxCrypt app. You can download the same from our official website: https://forum.axcrypt.net/download/ . Now install the AxCrypt app and try to start AxCrypting……
Still, you are facing any issue, please provide detailed information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net. We are happy to help you.
Hello Igor,
I forgot the password from my encrypted test file. ATTERMALLY I CANNOT OPEN IT OR CHANGE THE PASSWORD —- AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.
If you think you almost know the password, we have simple software allowing you to try to find your password, and you can download the most recent version from https://account.axcrypt.net/Download/AxBruteForce.exe and read of how to use it at https://forum.axcrypt.net/axcrypt-brute-force/ . Please note that we cannot provide support beyond this.
Unfortunately, if you do not know the password for an AxCrypt-encrypted file you cannot open it, even if you can sign in to the account. This is by design, it’s just this situation that AxCrypt is made for and it works like this even if you actually are the original owner of the file.
So please try to remember the file password(which was used in the encryption process) to decrypt/open the encrypted files.
If you do not remember the password to your account, you can always reset it. This is not a way to recover encrypted files! It’s only to allow you to sign in to the AxCrypt app and web. The new password will be used to encrypt new files. Go to https://account.axcrypt.net/Home/PasswordReset to do this, or you can also go there from AxCrypt with File | Options | Password Reset.
For more info about Password Reset: https://www.youtube.com/watchv=O6whtjSb3pc and https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/password-reset-axcrypt/

Hello scarabelli,
You can achieve the same using AxCrypt app. You can be connected to the external hard disk/drive to your system/laptop, then encrypt your files using AxCrypt app.
AxCrypt is a file encryption software not a Full disk encryption software. AxCrypt has a feature called Secured Folder which provides the convenience to the users, to secure more than one files in a single operation. You can encrypt the Drive/disk folder/file(S) using AxCrypt Secured folder features.
Please note: AxCrypt secured folder is a premium feature.
AxCrypt Secured Folder: — AxCrypt secures files, individually. However, you can designate folders as ‘secured’. The folders will be monitored for new files, and AxCrypt will secure all new files with a single click, or when you sign out.
You can also select multiple files, including all files in a folder, to be secured in a single operation. They still remain individual files, and the folder itself is not secured, just the files in it.
If the file in fact is located in a folder designated as “Secured”, it will soon be re-encrypted again since those folders are monitored for unencrypted files and will encrypt them when you sign out, or click the “Broom” clean up icon.
AxCrypt 2 uses a more robust method for the automatic re-encryption, which sometimes means you as the user have to tell AxCrypt to do it. You’ll see this by the “broom” icon becoming red. This indicates there’s something in need of “clean up”, i.e. re-encryption.

Hello Jim Kersey,
“Please avoid sending a same query in different mediums. You may get duplicate response.”
AxCrypt encrypted files should have a file extension “.axx”. Also, default application for the file type “.axx” should be AxCrypt app only.
If the AxCrypt app is not configured as a default app for the file extension or no other apps are mapped to the file extension, then you will be alerted with a warning dialog that states “Double-click to open AxCrypt files outside of AxCrypt may not function correctly. The operating system file association for extension ".axx" appears to be broken. Contact your IT support or search for a solution on the Internet..” when you start the AxCrypt app.
Might be, the default application is not mapped for the file extension “.axx” in your system. So please change the default application to AxCrypt for the file extension for “.axx” with the help of following links,
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028161/windows-10-change-default-programs or https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/18539/windows-7-change-default-programs
Now all the encrypted files with the file extension ‘.axx’ will be opened by double-clicking the file. Restart the system/AxCrypt app, if required.
Still, if you are facing any issues, please write to Support@axcrypt.net. we are happy to help you.

Sorry to say, Please explain your question in detailed information. we are happy to help you.
AxCrypt is file security software with 128-bit or 256-bit AES strong encryption. It helps to secure your files and folder(s)
Do you have any problem you are facing the AxCrypt application?

Hello victor,
The error message indicates that the file simply is not an AxCrypt file – it checks the first 16 bytes for a unique value.
Most often, this error occurs because the file is not produced by AxCrypt, but rather a different kind of file accidentally renamed to end with .axx. Another scenario is that it is a left-over after a previous decryption was interrupted at the stage where the original is overwritten.
Another scenario is that it is a left-over after a previous decryption was interrupted at the stage where the original is overwritten. The most common reason for this happening is that the file was damaged because of early removal of a USB drive, or a disconnected network drive.
If the file is actually damaged to this extent, no, it can’t be fixed. The data is just not there to decrypt it.
But we have a feature called Try Broken File. You can able to decrypt the corrupted AxCrypt encrypted files by navigating the menu File | Options | enable Debug from the AxCrypt app.
Now you can able to see the Debug the menu in the AxCrypt app. From the debug menu you have to select Try Broken File.
Now you will be prompted for file selection. Select the corrupted encrypted file and then AxCrypt will try to decrypt the file. If successfully decrypted, then you are able to see the decrypted file in the location. Otherwise sorry to say, AxCrypt can’t decrypt that file.
Still, if you are facing any issues, please write to Support@axcrypt.net. we are happy to help you.

Hello rube,
“Please avoid sending a same query in different mediums. You may get duplicate response.”
If you select a decrypt option.AxCrypt will not encrypt the file again.as per your email details, I think you are select the option in open secured(not sure).
You can able to decrypt the AxCrypt encrypted file by navigating File | Stop Securing from the AxCrypt app.
Or
In the recent files tab, right click on the file(which you want to decrypt) and select Stop Securing and remove from list
Or
In windows explorer, right click on the file and Select AxCrypt > Decrypt.
So please check the tutorial to decrypt the encrypted files with the AxCrypt app https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyixJ03qmkg&list=PLHRiJs6YxUhgR9sd66jR4ao0EiCxPO7u6&index=4 .

Hello rube,
How to remove the folder in secured folder list :
You can able to decrypt the AxCrypt secured folder by navigating to the Secured Folders Tab from the AxCrypt app. Then Right click on the selected folder (which you want to decrypt) and choose the menu option Decrypt Permanently.
Incase the folder is not listed in the Secured Folder list, then you have to secure the folder again using the Add Secured Folder option from the right click content menu.
Or In windows explorer, right click on the selected folder and choose AxCrypt > Decrypt.
I hope, your problem will get resolved. If not, please write the email to support@axcrypt.net with detailed information.
