Hello Alan R Ketcha,
First I will explain AxCrypt 2.x how to work:
AxCrypt 2 works just like your email software or most other password-protected systems. You sign in once and remain signed in until signed out. Just like you can read many emails without entering the password every time, AxCrypt will do the same. The files are still encrypted, but your password is remembered until you sign out of AxCrypt.
AxCrypt stays signed in until signed out, just like most similar applications such as your email. Once signed in, you can read, write and update information without having to re-enter the password, until signed out. AxCrypt will automatically sign out when the screen saver goes active(based on the Inactivity Sign Out configuration), or you can sign out manually.
You can use our Inactivity Sign Out feature, to sign out the AxCrypt app on certain time interval of inactivity. Also you can sign out the AxCrypt app, when opened the encrypted file(s). Now AxCrypt will ask the user to enter the sign in password to sign in to the AxCrypt app.
For Inactivity Sign Out, File | Options | Inactivity Sign Out | Choose duration in minutes.
If you are sign-out the AxCrypt app, then you can open the encrypted file with your file password.
Please explain which AxCrypt version do you have used? still, if you have any question/query, please write an email to our support team support@axcrypt.net.
Also Please you can send a screenshot showing where the problem is, it often helps us understand.
Please note: This might be because of some other third party applications are not allowing the AxCrypt app to run. Please try to check any firewall or antivirus software’s are blocking the AxCrypt app or not? If blocked, please add the AxCrypt app in the app’s whitelist.
Hello Richard Long,
Please use the latest legacy version(1.x) AxCrypt-1.7.3233.0-Setup.zip. The latest legacy version does not have open candy.
You can download the latest legacy version(1.x) of AxCrypt app by using the URL: http://www.axantum.com/axcrypt/legacydownloads.html
In your system you are already installing the legacy version, Please remove the all legacy version then restart the system. now you can download the above version then install the same. Please check the same again.
Now you use the legacy version without any problem.
AxCrypt app(2.x) will not update the modified datetime of the encrypted files unless we update the file contents.
If we are any updates in the encrypted files, then AxCrypt will update the last modification datetime. Actually, we have added an additional colmun to kepp track the last modification datatime in the recent files list.
We are stopped developing new features and fixing issues for the legacy version(AxCrypt 1.x). we will not be actively developing 1.x, nor will support be a priority.we will suggest you to use the latest AxCrypt 2.x app.
If you are asking any other quires, you can feel free to contact our support via support@axcrypt.net .
Hello George,
Sorry to say, Please explain detailed information about the issue also, write an email to our support team support@axcrypt.net
Do you uninstall or delete the AxCrypt app in your system? if yes, AxCrypt encrypted files are still encrypted with .axx extension only, after deleting/uninstall the AxCrypt app from the system.
Please install the AxCrypt app, sign in your AxCrypt account credentials then decrypt the all encrypted file(s)in your system. After that, uninstall(if need) the AxCrypt app. Now restart your system, AxCrypt app completely remove from your system.
Please note: AxCrypt account and AxCrypt app are required to open/decrypt the AxCrypt encrypted files. without the AxCrypt app we cannot decrypt the encrypted files.
Hello Anonymous,
We are responded to your other Forums(https://forum.axcrypt.net/forums/topic/how-to-share-encrypted-file-keys/page/2/#post-16595 ), so please check the same. Still, if you are facing any issues, please write to our support team(support@axcrypt.net). we are happy to help you.
Hello RL,
Please explain which AxCrypt version do you have used?
Please check: somebody there(friends/co-works/relatives, etc) to key shared the encrypted file with you? -if yes, you can open the same encrypted file, you have got the same message.
Or
Right-click the file in the AxCrypt recent file windows. Select ‘Share Keys’.
Now you see the Access sharing pop. Now you see the who shared the encrypted file with you. Please check the email address.
Do you have a problem with a ransom attack or hacker? if yes, I am very sorry to hear that your client apparently are the victim of a hacker ransom attack against your files.
If the files are having an “.axx” file extension, then the files are encrypted with the AxCrypt app only.
However, please understand that AxCrypt is just a tool that is used by millions of legitimate users for good purposes. I am very sad that a hacker has chosen AxCrypt as the tool to perform the ransom attacks.
Unfortunately, in this case, AxCrypt is based on strong encryption, and it is generally not possible to crack the encryption.
What you must do is contact your local police and have them follow the money and Internet trail to the hacker. Since others appear to be in the same situation, you may want to contact media in order to make this problem more widely known, and also gain the possibility of a group action of all the victims against the hacker.
We cannot help, we are in no way involved, and there is no way to open the files without the passphrase used.
Please read http://blog.axantum.com/2012/07/axcrypt-used-for-ransom-attacks.html for a longer discussion of what I know about this affair.

Hello ian wilson,
Apologies for the delayed response.
.exe file not possible to use Axcryptbruteforce onto it.
Latest Axcryptbruteforce having a small issue. we are working on it. it will be fixed and update soon.
Hello Smiley,
You can achieve the same using AxCrypt app. AxCrypt has a feature called Secured Folder which provides the convenience to the users, to secure more than one files in a single operation. You can encrypt the folder/file(s) using AxCrypt Secured folder features.
AxCrypt Secured Folder: — AxCrypt secures files, individually. However, you can designate folders as ‘secured’. The folders will be monitored for new files, and AxCrypt will secure all new files with a single click, or when you sign out.
You can also select multiple files, including all files in a folder, to be secured in a single operation. They still remain individual files, and the folder itself is not secured, just the files in it.
Include Subfolders:
You can encrypt a folder by using Secured Folders option. After that if you create a subfolder, it won’t re-encrypt the files of subfolder.
We can include the sub-folder by enabling the feature from the AxCrypt app menu File | Options | Include Subfolders. By default Include Subfolders will be disabled. So Sub-folders are not encrypted without enabling this feature.
How to secure (encrypt) the Folder?
You can able to encrypt your folder contents by just drag and drop the folder to the Secured Folders area.
Or Right-click on the Secured Folders area and choosing Add Secured Folder option from the context menu.
or Select the folder and right-click on the folder and select the AxCrypt | Encrypt menu option from the windows explorer context menu.

Hello Bryan,
In order to provide us with detailed information to help us help you, for this situation we’d like a full error report. Please follow the detailed instructions here: https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/send-complete-error-report/.
Or
Please You can make a video record about the issue and send it to our support team(support@axcrypt.net). We check the video and try to resolve the issue.
Also, please tell about – which operating system version and AxCrypt app version you are using?
AxCrypt decrypts the encrypted file and helps to open the same with the corresponding application(s). AxCrypt performs as much as faster based on the user’s system configuration and the file size and file count.
AxCrypt just decrypts the files only. After that PDF files are opening in the Corresponding Application only. So Corresponding application only takes a time to open the files.
Hello pr,
AxCrypt app will encrypt most of the file types. Also some file types AxCrypt will not encrypt due to security reasons.
AxCrypt will not encrypt any system files, temp file, hidden files and operating system installed drives/folder. So please avoid securing that kind of folders.
If you are receiving the warning dialog frequently, please click the Don’t show this again option. After that you never see this kind of warning.
Still, you are facing any issue, please provide detailed information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net. We are happy to help you.
July 8, 2020 at 08:42 in reply to: Axcrypt leaves many files visible (UNencrypted) even when program exited #16326Hello Charles,
If you have updated the encrypted files contents and which is pending for re-encryption.
I think (not sure) you are not closed to the file and corresponding application properly.so please try to clear the local cache file in the below way, then test the same file again(Please close all the instances of the file and corresponding application). still, if you are facing any issue. Please let me know.
Please check the folder(C:\Users\”User Name”\AppData\Local\AxCrypt). If you found any subfolders inside the AxCrypt folder, take a back up of those folders. Then clean the local cache by the below-described way.
Please delete the folder %LocalAppData%\AxCrypt(C:\Users\’User Name’\AppData\Local\AxCrypt) to clear the local cache and starts the AxCrypt app like a new.
If the above does not help, Please send the complete error report with some screenshots of the exceptions, so that we will try to troubleshoot the same as soon as possible.
You can also send the complete error report to troubleshoot the issue. Please follow the detailed instructions to take the complete error report: https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/send-complete-error-report/ .
Still, you are facing any issue, please provide detailed information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net. We are happy to help you.
