    Hello Claudio,

AxCrypt 2.x can decrypt the AxCrypt 1.x encrypted files with the password used. But AxCrypt 1.x can’t decrypt/open the AxCrypt 2.x encrypted files.

AxCrypt 1.x is a legacy version. That means it is outdated and there is no longer any support for it, whereas AxCrypt 2.x is the version that we are continuously working on to keep improving it. We recommend all users, old and new, to always use the most recently released version of AxCrypt.

Please ask your friend to use the latest version of the AxCrypt 2.x application. For more information, please contact our support via support@axcrypt.net .

    Hello Martin,

AxCrypt version 1.x is obsolete and we do not offer support for it. AxCrypt 1.x is not maintained and you should not download it unless specifically needed. Using it is at your own risk.

We removed the digital signature since we don’t support the AxCrypt 1.x. We completely stopped developing AxCrypt 1.x including the update of tools also. Still, you can download it from our official website for any special reason.

We always recommend users to download AxCrypt 2.x for more security with a lot of unique features. Users can open AxCrypt 1.x encrypted files in the AxCrypt 2.x application. If you wish to know the difference between AxCrypt 1.x and 2.x please check our FAQ and blogs. For more queries about AxCrypt 2.x, feel free to ask our support via support@axcrypt.net .

    Thanks.

    Hello AlGee,

The Legacy AxCrypt 1.x is fully working but unmaintained except for tooling and library upgrades etc. So, No need to worry about the latest versions of AxCrypt 1.x. There will be just an upgrade of tooling and nothing changed in the core/functionalities. It is a stable version too. You can download the AxCrypt legacy versions here – https://forum.axcrypt.net/support/legacy-downloads/ .

Most installers and executables are digitally signed with Authenticode by ‘Axantum Software AB’ or ‘AxCrypt AB’. Verify the signature after downloading by right-clicking the file and select ‘Properties | Digital Signatures’. Then double-click on the signature and confirm that ‘This digital signature is OK’ is shown.

We always recommend users, use AxCrypt 2.x which is the latest version of AxCrypt.

    Hello noone,

AxCrypt app required the file password(which was used in the file encryption process) to decrypt/view the encrypted file(s).

Email address is not required to use the AxBruteForce tool. Please read the link https://forum.axcrypt.net/axcrypt-brute-force/ to know more about the AxBruteForce tool.

Still, if you need to know about your account information, please contact our support via support@axcrypt.net .

    Hello Hajo and Andre,

We understood your concern. But, based on the users’ feedback, we have decided to keep the user account and the single account password for encryption.

The reason behind the single password and the user account is clearly mentioned in our blogs. Please check the same.

    https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/use-of-different-passwords/ and https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/encryption-vs-authentication/.

Still, we can change your AxCrypt account password with a different password using the password change feature – https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/password-reset-axcrypt/. This is a another way of encrypting files with different passwords.

Also, Premium users can use the Key Sharing feature to send encrypted files to other users. Free users can use Key Management feature to key share and send encrypted files to other users.

    Hello Max,

AxCrypt is a file encryption software with no backdoor. AxCrypt is not aware of the users’ account password, which we do not store anywhere.

AxCrypt is used to store the users’ basic information like email addresses, etc. For more info, please check out our privacy policy page: https://forum.axcrypt.net/information/privacy-policy/.

Passwords stored in the password manager will get encrypted with the users’ account password and then stored in the server. So, without knowing the account password, nobody can view the stored passwords in the password manager.

Also, Without knowing the file password(which was used in the file encryption), no one can decrypt the encrypted files.

Premium and Business subscription provides more security and additional features. But all the users should know their AxCrypt account password to view the stored passwords or encrypted files.

If you wish to know about how AxCrypt works? please check our blog post and information page – https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/what-is-an-axcrypt-id/ and https://forum.axcrypt.net/information/technical/.

    Hello Mats,

We already responded to you via support email and please do not send the same query in multiple windows. Anyway, I will copy the same here too.

    1) If the system suddenly shuts down and somebody took that system when the files are decrypted: AxCrypt is a user-mode software and It is running on the operating system. The app(not only AxCrypt) will get cleared/exited when the operating system forcefully shuts down. In this case, How the AxCrypt application will work? Because the system itself closed forcefully. So, If the files are not secured and the system went to shut down, sorry to say the AxCrypt app will not handle this situation. Your unencrypted files will be unencrypted state only.

    2) Yes, I agree, AxCrypt will not continue the encryption/decryption process if it gets an exception. We are already working on the issue and the same will get released as soon as possible.

    Hello Anonimo,

    Apologies for the delayed response.

AxCrypt mac version is working fine with almost all the users. Only very few users used to get some unusual behavior with the AxCrypt app, due to other third-party or antivirus or firewall applications that will not allow some applications. Maybe because of that reason, the AxCrypt app is not opening or crashing in some of the users’ devices. So, We used to ask users to send the logs/error report to our support email to check and resolve the issue.

If you experienced any bad incidents with AxCrypt, we regret the inconvenience caused.

If you have any issues with the AxCrypt app, please write here or send an email to support@axcrypt.net.

    Hello Colin,

    We regret the inconvenience caused.

Our developers already fixed this issue in our local environment and about to deliver the app as soon as possible. For the time being, please open the encrypted files by using the Open Secured(Unlock) icon in the AxCrypt app.

Once again apologies for the inconvenience.

    Hello Hans,

AxCrypt will not encrypt the already encrypted files. Means, it will not encrypt .axx files.

AxCrypt encrypted files should have a “.axx” file extension. So AxCrypt once encrypts the file, then the file will be renamed to “filename-originalextension.axx”.

For example: Encrypting file name is “testDocument.txt”, then the AxCrypt encrypted file will be renamed to “testDocument-txt.axx”.

Once you encrypt the file with the AxCrypt app, then it will be secured. Nobody can access the encrypted files without the file password which was used in the file encryption. So no need to encrypt the file twice.

Instead of thinking to encrypt a file twice, please use strong passwords to secure your files.

For strong passwords, please refer to our password generator https://forum.axcrypt.net/password-generator/ .

Note: AxCrypt application only can decrypt/open the AxCrypt encrypted files.

    Hello Timothy,

If you are able to install and use the AxCrypt app in the server, then you can use the AxCrypt app without any issues.

To open/decrypt the encrypted files, you need the file password which was used in the file encryption process.

Unfortunately, if you do not know the password for an AxCrypt-encrypted file you cannot open it, even if you can sign in to the account. This is by design, it’s just this situation that AxCrypt is made for and it works like this even if you actually are the original owner of the file.

If you have any specific issues, please write to support@axcrypt.net.

    Hello David,

Apologies for the long delay, We missed this forum.

AxCrypt is a user-mode software, we can install/uninstall the AxCrypt app like the other applications/softwares.

We are not sure about the other uninstaller softwares, but AxCrypt works fine when we uninstall the app using the default windows uninstall technology. If we use the default, AxCrypt app-related contents(except manually created shortcuts) will also get removed from the system.

So this is not because of the AxCrypt app, this might be because of the third party uninstall software. Please check with their support or use windows uninstall.
