    Hello Kees,

Please check your system, whether you have installed both the versions(1.x and 2.x) of AxCrypt app? If yes, please uninstall the older one.

AxCrypt app used to check the default app for the file extension “.axx” when we start the app. That time, AxCrypt 2.x is not mapped for the .axx file extension, then the app will alert the user with an warning dialog which you got.

It is because of the AxCrypt 2.x app is not mapped as a default application for the file extension “.axx” in your system. So, please change the default application to AxCrypt 2.x for the file extension for “.axx” with the help of following links,

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028161/windows-10-change-default-programs or https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/18539/windows-7-change-default-programs

Now all the encrypted files with the file extension ‘.axx’ will be opened  by double clicking the file. Restart the system/AxCrypt app, if required. Hereinafter, you will not get the warning alert.

    Hello didier,

Please check whether you are using the AxCrypt portable version or installed version?

Currently, the AxCrypt right-click context menu is available only in the windows (Installer) version of the AxCrypt app. You can see the same by installing the latest version of the AxCrypt app in your windows system.

If you are using portable(standalone) version, please download and install the installable version of the AxCrypt app.

We can find the major differences between the standalone version and installer version of AxCrypt,  by clicking the following link: https://forum.axcrypt.net/support/faq/#download-version .

or It might be happened because of some firewall/antivirus or other third party applications are blocking the AxCrypt app. So please check the firewall or other software settings.

If the above does not help, Please provide more information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net . you can send a screenshot showing where the problem is, it often helps us understand.

    Hello Muggsy,

You can use the AxCrypt key sharing feature to fulfill your requirement. AxCrypt key sharing is a premium feature.

You can send the encrypted files to other users. If they want to open the received encrypted file(s), then we have to share the file password(which was used in the file encryption) with them or the files should be key shared with receivers’ email addresses. AxCrypt application is mandatory to decrypt the encrypted files.

There is no need to share passwords in order to send or share files securely with others.

AxCrypt has a key sharing feature letting you add recipients by email address, who when they receive the file can open it with their own AxCrypt password.

To see a quick instructional video explaining how to use key sharing, please view https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9z3KOZD-Yks .

If the above does not help,Please provide more information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net .

    Hello Sean,

    Apologies for the delayed response.

I think, you manually clear system local cache(%LocalAppData%\AxCrypt(C:\Users\’User Name’\AppData\Local\AxCrypt) or might clicked the Reset button in the sign in password dialog  . That button is used to reset the AxCrypt account data in the locally installed AxCrypt app. That means, it will clear all the local contents cache of the AxCrypt app ans restart the app like a freshly installed one.

Then you have to provide your account email address and password again to sign in to the AxCrypt app.

Please sign in your boss AxCrypt emails address and credentials in AxCrypt app. Now open/decrypt the Encrypted files without any issue.

If the above does not help,Please provide more information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net . you can send a screenshot showing where the problem is, it often helps us understand.

    Hello liam,

AxCrypt is a File encryption software not a Folder encryption software. But you can secure the folder using AxCrypt secured folder features.

If the file in fact is located in a folder designated as “Secured”, it will soon be re-encrypted again since those folders are monitored for unencrypted files and will encrypt them when you sign out, or click the “Broom” clean up icon.

AxCrypt 2 uses a more robust method for the automatic re-encryption, which sometimes means you as the user have to tell AxCrypt to do it. You’ll see this by the “broom” icon becoming red. This indicates there’s something in need of “clean up”, i.e. re-encryption.

If the above does not help,Please provide more information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net .

    Hello Gabriel,

AxCrypt will keep track on the opened encrypted files, to update and re-encrypt the same. If we opened the file and updated the contents, then AxCrypt will re-encrypt the updated file.

So after editing the encrypted files, we have to click the broom icon or sign out from the AxCrypt app to re-encrypt the updated files.

We have to close all the instance of the encrypted file(s) opened application.

For example: You opened an encrypted document and updating the document. At the same time, If you have opened another document in the same application, or even if just the application is running without an opened document, AxCrypt can’t be sure enough to actually do the re-encryption.

So we have to close all the opened application instances.

Please explain how to share your Encrypted file to your Colleague? Using Key share features? or send to encrypted file and you shared the file password?

If your are asking any other quires, you can feel free to contact our support via support@axcrypt.net .

    Hello Dale,

If the file was encrypted with other than the AxCrypt account sign in password, then we have to enter the file password to decrypt/open the encrypted files.

When we double-click on the encrypted file(s) from the explorer window, AxCrypt will prompt the user to enter the sign-in password.

If the file was encrypted with the sign in password, then AxCrypt will open the encrypted file without asking anything.

At the same time, if the file encrypted with other than the sign-in password, you will be prompted to enter the file password.

AxCrypt 2.x uses a single sign-in password to encrypt/decrypt the files. File password is required when the file was encrypted with the different passwords.

In the latest version of AxCrypt app, we can open the encrypted files directly by entering the file password in the sign-in dialog.

If both the sign-in and file password are same, then the AxCrypt app will get signed in.

If both the passwords are different, then the file will get opened without signing in to the app.

If the above does not help, please provide more information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net .

    Hello Luis,

AxCrypt encrypted files should have a file extension “.axx”. Also, default application for the file type “.axx” should be AxCrypt app only.

Might be, the default application is not mapped for the file extension “.axx” in your system. So please change the default application to AxCrypt for the file extension for “.axx” with the help of following links,

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028161/windows-10-change-default-programs or https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/18539/windows-7-change-default-programs

Now all the encrypted files with the file extension ‘.axx’ will be opened  by double clicking the file.

    Hello Terry ,

AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.

If the file was encrypted with a different password than your sign in password, then you have to enter the file password while viewing/decrypting the encrypted file.

For example: Try to encrypt a file with your AxCrypt password and then reset your AxCrypt account password using Reset Password Feature. Now if you open the encrypted file, you will be prompted for enter the file password (which is used for encryption of the file).

Still, you can open/decrypt the old encrypted files with the original file password(which was used in the file encryption process).

For more info about Password Change and Password Reset: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6whtjSb3pc and https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/password-reset-axcrypt/

If you think you almost know the password, we have simple software allowing you to try to find your password, and you can download the most recent version from https://account.axcrypt.net/Download/AxBruteForce.exe and read of how to use it at https://forum.axcrypt.net/axcrypt-brute-force/ . Please note that we cannot provide support beyond this.

If the above does not help, please provide more information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net .
