Hello Urs Gerhard,
AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.
Please note: AxCrypt is file encryption with no backdoor, that means AxCrypt do not store user’s account password, anywhere. Nobody can decrypt the encrypted files without the file password used in the file encryption. This is the way AxCrypt app was designed.
Unfortunately, if you do not know the password for an AxCrypt-encrypted file you cannot open it, even if you can sign in to the account. This is by design, it’s just this situation that AxCrypt is made for and it works like this even if you actually are the original owner of the file.
If you know some part of the password, then you can download and use the most recent version of AxBruteForce from https://account.axcrypt.net/Download/AxBruteForce.exe, to decrypt the files.
If you do not remember the password to your account, you can always reset it. This is not a way to recover encrypted files! It’s only to allow you to sign in to the AxCrypt app and web. The new password will be used to encrypt new files. Go to https://account.axcrypt.net/Home/PasswordReset to do this, or you can also go there from AxCrypt with File | Options | Password Reset.
For more info about Password Reset: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6whtjSb3pc and https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/password-reset-axcrypt/ .
If the above does not help, please provide more information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net .
Hello john,
AxCrypt will keep track on the opened encrypted files, to update and re-encrypt the same. If we opened the file and updated the contents, then AxCrypt will re-encrypt the updated file.
So after editing the encrypted files, we have to click the broom icon or sign out from the AxCrypt app to re-encrypt the updated files. We have to close all the instance of the encrypted file(s) opened application.
And the AxCrypt app will be checking whether the opened file and the corresponding application are closed or not? If closed, then the AxCrypt app will automatically update the contents of the file and re-encrypt the same.
Actually, we have to close the file opened application completely, to update and re-encrypt the file. Sometimes, we have to manually click the red Broom icon, to clean and update the pending files.
Please note: If you opened and updated an encrypted text file with notepad and at the same time you had opened an another notepad application also, then you have to close both the opened applications to re-encrypt the encrypted files. You have to close all the opened corresponding applications properly.
Please close the encrypted file and corresponding file, then you can signout/exit from the AxCrypt app. without any issue.
Still, you are facing any issues, please provide more information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net.

But I just explain about the AxCrypt 2.x and its features. We recommend our users to use AxCrypt 2.x app instead of AxCrypt v1.x app.
AxCrypt 1.x and 2.x are compatible in the sense that 2.x can open all files secured with 1.x. In addition to that, 2.x implements of lot of new rich features, while some functions of 1.x are deprecated. Files secured with AxCrypt 2.x are not possible to open with AxCrypt 1.x. You cannot have both AxCrypt 1.x and 2.x installed at the same time.
AxCrypt 2.x will be available on many platforms and devices, while AxCrypt 1.x will always be limited to the Windows desktop. The new version is rewritten from the ground up on a new technological platform, and there are many differences.
AxCrypt 2 comes with newly improved and user-friendly user interface, account management(subscription information, password change and etc.) and more additional features.
Still,if you are asking any Query/issues, please provide more information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net.
Hello Scott,
AxCrypt is a file encryption software. AxCrypt has a feature called Secured Folder which provides the convenience to the users, to secure more than one files in a single operation. You can encrypt the Drive folder/file(S) using AxCrypt Secured folder features.
AxCrypt Secured Folder: — AxCrypt secures files, individually. However, you can designate folders as ‘secured’. The folders will be monitored for new files, and AxCrypt will secure all new files with a single click, or when you sign out.
You can also select multiple files, including all files in a folder, to be secured in a single operation. They still remain individual files, and the folder itself is not secured, just the files in it.
AxCrypt Re-Encryption with a Broom icon: — If the file in fact is located in a folder designated as “Secured”, it will soon be re-encrypted again since those folders are monitored for unencrypted files and will encrypt them when you sign out, or click the “Broom” clean up icon.
AxCrypt 2 uses a more robust method for the automatic re-encryption, which sometimes means you as the user have to tell AxCrypt to do it. You’ll see this by the “broom” icon becoming red. This indicates there’s something in need of “clean up”, i.e. re-encryption.
AxCrypt 2 works just like your email software or most other password-protected systems. You sign in once and remain signed in until signed out. Just like you can read many emails without entering the password every time, AxCrypt will do the same. The files are still encrypted, but your password is remembered until you sign out of AxCrypt.
AxCrypt stays signed in until signed out, just like most similar applications such as your email. Once signed in, you can read, write and update information without having to re-enter the password, until signed out. AxCrypt will automatically sign out when the screen saver goes active(based on the Inactivity Sign Out configuration), or you can sign out manually.
Please check out our video tutorials at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoSoXBjq6iCG5232fHoWStA and our other documentation at https://forum.axcrypt.net/information/get-started/ to get started with AxCrypt.
Still,if you are asking any Query/issues, please provide more information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net.

Hello David,
I will explain below how AxCrypt works.
we are checking with our local environment, AxCrypt app working fine without any issue.
AxCrypt works by decrypting files temporarily and then launching the appropriate application for the decrypted file, which thus is entirely unaware of AxCrypt. AxCrypt monitors the system for the launched app to exit, and when it detects this it will re-encrypt the file and wipe (overwrite) the decrypted file and then delete it.
Note: The temporary files will be removed as soon as the opened encrypted file closed/signed out from the AxCrypt app
AxCrypt encrypted files should have a file extension “.axx”. Also, default application for the file type “.axx” should be AxCrypt app only.
Might be, the default application is not mapped for the file extension “.axx” in your system. So please change the default application to AxCrypt for the file extension for “.axx” with the help of following links,
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028161/windows-10-change-default-programs or https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/18539/windows-7-change-default-programs
Now all the encrypted files with the file extension ‘.axx’ will be opened by double clicking the file. Restart the system/AxCrypt app, if required.
Still, if you are facing any issue, please provide more information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net.
Hello roy,
1. We are discussing it with our team. We will get back to you.
2.Password manager:
Sorry to say, AxCrypt doesn’t support an import passwords feature.
Instead, You can use the AxCrypt Password manager feature.
The password manager is a general-purpose password store for all kinds of personal passwords and secrets
If you want to suggest strong password, please use AxCrypt password generator: https://forum.axcrypt.net/password-generator/
AxCrypt password manager is very easy to use. You can add & save to the password. AxCrypt Password manager UI is very easy. Please check the same and use it.
still, if you are facing any issue, please provide more information about the issue/feedback and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net.
Hello tim,
AxCrypt 2.x use a single sign on model where the same password is used to sign in to our servers and to protect your files.
You can use our Inactivity Sign Out feature, to sign out the AxCrypt app on certain time interval of inactivity. Also you can sign out the AxCrypt app, when opened the encrypted file(s). Now AxCrypt will ask the user to enter the sign in password to sign in to the AxCrypt app.
For Inactivity Sign Out, File | Options | Inactivity Sign Out | Choose duration in minutes.
Still,if you are asking any Query/issues, please provide more information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net.

Hello Frank,
C installed another copy of free version Axcrpt, can C read that file– No, C user cannot read the file.
Reason is. User A only shared the encrypted file with User B. so user B can open the encrypted with the own file password.
If the user C knows the file password of the encrypted file. now user C can open the encrypted file. otherwise no option to decrypt the file.
Please note: without file password nobody to decrypt the encrypted file.
Still, you are facing any issues, please provide more information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net.
Hello Wendy,
AxCrypt will keep track on the opened encrypted files, to update and re-encrypt the same.
For example: You opened an encrypted document and updating the document. At the same time, If you have opened another document in the same application, or even if just the application is running without an opened document, AxCrypt can’t be sure enough to actually do the re-encryption.
If the above does not help or Still, you are facing any issues, please provide more information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net.

Hello Nick,
AxCrypt Password manager to store your all kinds of personal passwords and secrets which will be encrypted by your AxCrypt account password and stored in our servers.
AxCrypt will not store the users password anywhere in our servers. All the stored users’ keys(public and private) and stored passwords in the password manager will get encrypted with their account password. So without knowing the file password, Sorry to say, no one can decrypt the files and view their stored passwords. This is the way AxCrypt was designed.
Please note: Unfortunately, If you forgot your AxCrypt account password, then you can’t decrypt/view your stored passwords.
Still, you are facing any issues, please provide more information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net.
