Hello Jérémy,
The shredding, or wiping(secure delete), feature of AxCrypt allows you to erase files in a way that makes it impossible to recover the contents with undeletion software. However, there are some caveats:
- The name of the file, as well as the size, may be recovered.
- If the file has been viewed or edited with an application that creates temporary copies of the content (such as Microsoft Office), those temporary copies may still be available for undeletion on your hard disk.
For more informations, please visit our information site https://forum.axcrypt.net/information/security/ and http://www.axantum.com/AxCrypt/etc/seagate128vs256.pdf (For AES 128 & 256 bit).
Always keep a backup of all your important files, encrypted or not.
July 27, 2018 at 05:57 in reply to: Reset my password but still cannot encrypt due to wrong password #10951Hello Jenny,
When signing in to the AxCrypt app, you have to use the AxCrypt account password(which was used to sign in the AxCrypt account site).
Still if you are trying with the same password(wrong/old password), then the AxCrypt app will not allow you to sign in to your AxCrypt account.
I think you perhaps are not careful enough when you type the password – or you are not aware that upper and lower case characters are different, and spaces and accents are significant when typing the password. For example, it seems you are typing your email address differently with upper and lower case when signing in to the web and the app (this does not matter as such, but it’s an indication of different usage in the different situations).
I suggest you use the ‘show password’ option in both the web and the app, and ensure that what is type is truly identical. This means having the same casing, the same spacing, the same umlauts and accents etc. The following passwords are all different:
Not4real!Secrets
not4real!Secrets
not4real! Secrets
nôt4real!Secrets
not4real!Sècrets
So please use the correct password to sign in to the AxCrypt app.
A final note, Password Reset is not a way to recover encrypted files! It’s only to allow you to sign in to the AxCrypt app and web.
Hello J,
This issue because of your hard drive or USB drive was corrupted or NTFS incorrectly determines that the name of a parent folder does not change when NTFS opens a file.
For example, one thread might rename a file at the same time that the other thread moves the same file. NTFS then tries to remove a link that no longer exists to the file. Therefore, NTFS generates the error message that is listed earlier in this article. Ref. Source https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/867525/you-receive-a-the-file-or-directory-is-corrupt-and-unreadable-error-me .
This is not realted to AxCrypt application. You can resolve the same by searching the issue on the internet.
Hello Lesley,
AxCrypt has a key sharing feature letting you add recipients by email address, who when they receive the file can open it with their own AxCrypt password.
Key sharing embeds the shared key into the file. The file must thus first be key shared with the recipient, then sent or file shared. Please note that AxCrypt does not share or send the actual file. To see a quick instructional video explaining how to use key sharing, please view https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9z3KOZD-Yks .
Note that the person you’re sending the file has to use AxCrypt 2 with the email address you shared the file.
Sharing a secured file is made directly from the AxCrypt software by choosing the secured file, click the share button and simply select the team member you want to share it to. The recipient just needs a free AxCrypt ID and will be automatically invited via email if necessary. The invitation email contains instructions on how to view and edit the file.
No need to worry about, which keys you have to share? and other informations. Because AxCrypt Key Sharing will take care of keys and it’s related. For more information about AxCrypt ID and Keys, please check out our blog: https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/what-is-an-axcrypt-id/

Internet is Required for the first time of login after resetting the account password via the AxCrypt account site. Because AxCrypt will try to sync your subscription and account information from our secured servers to your local Application.
So try to sign in to the AxCrypt app with internet enabled.
Still are you facing the same problem, please try to clear the AxCrypt local contents by clicking the Reset button in the sign in dialog or via the AxCrypt file menu File | Options | Clear All Settings & Restart.

AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.
If the file was encrypted with a different password than your sign in password, then you have to enter the file password while viewing/decrypting the encrypted file.
While viewing the encrypted file (having different password than your sign in password), you have to enter the file password. If you enter the AxCrypt account password instead of file password, then you will get the alert message like “You are already logged in with this password! “. So you need to enter the file password.
For Example: Try to encrypt a file with your AxCrypt password and then reset your AxCrypt account password using Reset Password Feature. Now if you open the encrypted file, you will be prompted for enter the file password (which is used for encryption of the file).
So the encrypted files before password resetting, holding the old password. Now you have to enter the old password to decrypt/open the AxCrypt encrypted files which are all encrypted before the password reset.
Newly encrypted files after resetting, holding the new password. So You can open/decrypt the newly encrypted files without entering your file password.
Password Reset is not a way to recover encrypted files! It’s only to allow you to sign in to the AxCrypt app and web.
AxCrypt is file encryption with no backdoor. Unfortunately, if you do not know the password for an AxCrypt-encrypted file you cannot open it, even if you can sign in to the account. This is by design. it’s just this situation that AxCrypt is made for and it works like this even if you actually are the original owner of the file
If you think you almost know the password, we have simple software allowing you to try to find your password, and you can download the most recent version from https://account.axcrypt.net/Download/AxBruteForce.exe and read of how to use it at https://forum.axcrypt.net/axcrypt-brute-force/ . Please note that we cannot provide support beyond this.
Hi Rob,
Due to some security procedures, AxCrypt will not encrypt the internet and normal shortcut files.
AxCrypt should not encrypt files marked as system and hidden files also. AxCrypt is not about hiding the fact that data is encrypted. Also, it is easy to make things complicated by encrypting such files so we should not encourage it.
Hello Alex,
You can use AxCrypt to secure your files which are all stored in your Google Drive.
AxCrypt Cloud Storage Awareness is really just about detecting installed cloud services, creating a “My AxCrypt” folder and then designating the created folder as ‘Secured’. However, the feature is really useful only when the folder is Secured, i.e. monitored for new files to encrypt.
So sync your google drive files in your local or some where else and encrypt those files using the AxCrypt app.
You can able to encrypt your folder contents by just drag and drop the folder to the Secured Folders area from the Axcrypt app.
or Right click on the Secured Folders area and choosing Add Secured Folder option from the context menu.
You can also use our AxCrypt Key Sharing feature to share the encrypted file with someone. For key sharing : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9z3KOZD-Yks .
Please check out our video tutorials at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoSoXBjq6iCG5232fHoWStA to get started with AxCrypt.

If you do not remember the password to your account, you can always reset it. This is not a way to recover encrypted files! It’s only to allow you to sign in to the AxCrypt app and web. The new password will be used to encrypt new files. Go to https://account.axcrypt.net/Home/PasswordReset to do this, or you can also go there from AxCrypt with File | Options | Password Reset.
Hello Paul,
Whenever a file is encrypted, it’s encrypted with a random key. That key, in turn, is encrypted with the user’s password AND with the users public key.
When the user changes the password on the website, the private key is re-encrypted with the new password.
When you change (not reset) your password for your AxCrypt ID account, *all* files previously encrypted with that AxCrypt ID account will automatically open with the new changed password.
When the user then sign-ins on the app with internet enabled, the local encrypted copy of the private key is updated with the new encrypted version from the server.
Thus, the user can actually “change” password for all his/her files.
Note that the file can actually still be opened with the original password, since the file encryption key is encrypted with that also, still (until it’s updated).
