Hi Nick,
AxCrypt will not encrypt the your system folder(C:/). If the files are exists in the system folder, then AxCrypt will ignore those files. So copy those files into some other location in your system then encrypt the same.
Because we are able to encrypt the .wav files with the AxCrypt 2.x(screenshot attached).
Hi Paul,
Please check your system whether has any pending windows updates or not?, Sometimes becasue of the update failure or pending updates will stop or affect the .Net Framework. So better update your operating system and then try to do the same.
If still you are facing the issue, please write a mail to support@axcrypt.net with the complete error report. so that we will try to troubleshoot the same as soon as possible.
You can also send the complete error report to troubleshoot the issue. Please follow the detailed instructions to take the complete error report: https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/send-complete-error-report/ .
Hi Quentin,
You secured the folder and decrypt the files which are all inside the secured folder. And the secured folder is still in the Secured Folder monitoring list. So AxCrypt will re-encrypt the unencrypted files in the secured folders, when signing out or clicking the broom icon.
I think, you are facing the above scenario, right?…
You can decrypt the AxCrypt secured folder by signing in to the AxCrypt app with your AxCrypt credentials.
You can decrypt the AxCrypt secured folder by navigating to the Secured Folders Tab from the AxCrypt app. Then Right click on the selected folder(which you want to decrypt) and choose the menu option Decrypt Permanently.
That’s all. The secured folder will be decrypted and removed from the Secured Folders list.
Incase the folder is not listed in the Secured Folder list, then you can decrypt the encrypted files(selecting all or some files) inside the secured folder. Now those files will be decrypted and also will not be re-encrypted when signing out or clicking the broom icon.
If you want to decrypt the folder in a single click but the secured folder was not in the Secured Folders(monitoring) list, then you have to add the folder in the secured folders list using the Add Secured Folder option from the right click context menu. Then decrypt the same using the above suggested way.
AxCrypt mac verison does not have the right click context menu(like in windows). It will be added to the mac app in near future.

Hello Tamer,
I am very sorry to hear that you apparently are the victim of a hacker ransom attack against your files.
However, please understand that AxCrypt is just a tool that is used by millions of legitimate users for good purposes. I am very sad that a hacker has chosen AxCrypt as the tool to perform the ransom attacks.
Unfortunately in this case, AxCrypt is based on strong encryption, and it is generally not possible to crack the encryption.
What you must do is contact your local police, and have them follow the money and Internet trail to the hacker. Since others appear to be in the same situation, you may want to contact media in order to make this problem more widely known, and also gain the possibility of a group action of all the victims against the hacker.
We cannot help, we are in no way involved, and there is no way to open the files without the passphrase used.
Please read http://blog.axantum.com/2012/07/axcrypt-used-for-ransom-attacks.html for a longer discussion of what I know about this affair.
Hello Art ,
AxCrypt 2 relies on .NET framework 4.5 or later, So please check the dot net framework version and update it to latest, if the system has the older version.
or If your operating system having any pending updates, please try to install the same. After that try to uninstall and reinstall the AxCrypt app.
You can download and install the Dot net Framework in your system by clicking the link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=30653
If the above does not help, please write a mail to support@axcrypt.net.

Hello Dave,
AxCrypt has a sophisticated password strength evaluator based on measuring the actual strength of the password. It must also be at least 8 effective characters long.
We evaluate the password by estimating the strength, which is based on how long and complex the password is.
The evaluation entirely disregards parts of the password that is recognized as being among the 1,000 most common passwords, as well as white space.
I suggest you use the ‘show password’ option in both the web and the app, and ensure that what is type is truly identical. This means having the same casing, the same spacing, the same umlauts and accents etc.
You can AxCrypt Password Generator to generate a strong password: https://forum.axcrypt.net/password-generator/
Hello Alberto,
The path(which the file is there) does not has necessary(write) access for the user. That’s the reason you are getting the exception.
I think, you are using the older version of AxCrypt app. I suggest you to use AxCrypt 2.x for more features and great usage.
Unfortunately, if you do not know the password for an AxCrypt-encrypted file you cannot open it, even if you can sign in to the account. This is by design, it’s just this situation that AxCrypt is made for and it works like this even if you actually are the original owner of the file.
If you think you almost know the password, we have simple software allowing you to try to find your password, and you can download the most recent version from https://account.axcrypt.net/Download/AxBruteForce.exe and read of how to use it at https://forum.axcrypt.net/axcrypt-brute-force/ . Please note that we cannot provide support beyond this.
If you do not remember the password to your account, you can always reset it. This is not a way to recover encrypted files! It’s only to allow you to sign in to the AxCrypt app and web.
Hello Warren,
AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.
I think you perhaps are not careful enough when you type the password – or you are not aware that upper and lower case characters are different, and spaces and accents are significant when typing the password.
Also Password Reset and Password Change both are not a same functionality. For more info, please check our blog: https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/password-reset-axcrypt/ .

Hi Jim,
AxCrypt has a sophisticated password strength evaluator based on measuring the actual strength of the password. It must also be at least 8 effective characters long. You can use more than that length also.
We evaluate the password by estimating the strength, which is based on how long and complex the password is.
The evaluation entirely disregards parts of the password that is recognized as being among the 1,000 most common passwords, as well as white space.
For example the password ‘secretX password Y 123456’ is evaluated as just ‘XY’, since spaces, ‘secret’, ‘password’ and ‘123456’ are ignored!
We classify the password in 4 categories of increasing strength, were we do not accept any password in the lowest category. The above example is not accepted for that reason.
If you want suggest strong password with minimum length, please check here: https://forum.axcrypt.net/password-generator/. The generated passwords are more stronger and will take some million/trillion years to break the passwords.
Please check out our blog to know more about the AxCrypt Keys, https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/what-is-an-axcrypt-id/.
Hi Jamie,
Apologies for the long delay.
We do have released the latest version of AxCrypt 2. Please download the app from our website https://forum.axcrypt.net/download/ and start AxCrypting…
October 19, 2018 at 15:09 in reply to: Can't open or decrypt my files or folder that were encrypted #11668Hi Tony,
AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.
If the file was encrypted with a different password than your sign in password, then you have to enter the file password while viewing/decrypting the encrypted file.
While viewing the encrypted file (having different password than your sign in password), you have to enter the file password. If you enter the AxCrypt account password instead of file password, then you will get the alert message like “You are already logged in with this password! “. So you need to enter the file password.
For example: Try to encrypt a file with your AxCrypt password and then reset your AxCrypt account password using Reset Password Feature. Now if you open the encrypted file, you will be prompted for enter the file password (which is used for encryption of the file).
The above situation was happened for you. So please try to remember your file password(which is used for encryption) then try to decrypt the encrypted file.
If you do not know the file password (which is used for encryption), You can’t decrypt the encrypted file(s).
Please Note: Password reset is not a way to recover encrypted files! It’s only to allow you to sign in to the AxCrypt app and web.
Hello onicrystal,
AxCrypt 2 asks you to sign in to your account, which AxCrypt 1 did not. We now use a single sign on model where the same password is used to sign in to our servers and to protect your files. The password that you’re being asked for is the password to your account, which you probably created when you first installed AxCrypt.
For more about, why sign in required in AxCrypt v2.x? please check our blog: https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/encryption-vs-authentication/

Password reset is not a way to recover encrypted files! It’s only to allow you to sign in to the AxCrypt app and web.
After resetting your AxCrypt account with a new password, You will get access to the AxCrypt account server and application too. But you can’t decrypt the old encrypted without knowing the file password(which was used in the file encryption).
Because the encrypted files before password reset, holding an old password. So you have to enter the file password to decrypt/open the old AxCrypt encrypted files(which are all encrypted before the password reset).
After password reset, the newly encrypted files holding the new password. So you can open/decrypt the newly encrypted files without entering your file password.
If the file was encrypted with a different password than your sign in password, then you have to enter the file password(which was used in the file encryption) while viewing/decrypting the encrypted file.
For example: Try to encrypt a file with your AxCrypt password and then reset your AxCrypt account password using Reset Password Feature. After that Sign in to the AxCrypt app with your new password. Hello Txcrlb,
No need internet to encrypt/decrypt your files using the AxCrypt app.
Internet is required for every first time of sign in to the AxCrypt app.
For example: If you had done the password reset to your AxCrypt account using our account site, then the updated account information needs to be updated in your local system to access the AxCrypt app with the updated password.
Hello JORGE,
