Hello Anonymous,
AxCrypt Premium subscription is required to use the AxCrypt mac version. With Free subscription in mac version, we can just open/decrypt the encrypted files. If you want to do more, please purchase our premium subscription.

July 29, 2019 at 16:16 in reply to: How can I make use of export/import public sharing key or Axcrpyt ID ? #14103Hello Von,
AxCrypt app should be in the online state to fetch the user’s public keys when key sharing with the files. Please start the AxCyrpt app with internet-enabled and then start using the key sharing feature.
AxCrypt app will connect our servers to fetch the recipient user’s public key. If the AxCrypt app is in an offline state, then the app failed to communicate with our servers. That’s the reason we disabled the Add Contact textbox.
If you do not want to use the AxCrypt app in an online state, then use the Key Management feature(as explained earlier in this forum) to key share the file.
We do not have a log to store when the file was key shared? and with whom?. We do have a log file to monitor and capture the exceptions/issues.
Key sharing will not take more time to complete the process. it will take very less time to complete the process. AxCrypt will not send any emails or files to some other users while key sharing.
Key sharing embeds the shared key into the file. The file must thus first be key shared with the recipient, then sent or file shared. Please note that AxCrypt does not share or send the actual file. To see a quick instructional video explaining how to use key sharing, please view https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9z3KOZD-Yks .

July 29, 2019 at 15:43 in reply to: How can I make use of export/import public sharing key or Axcrpyt ID ? #14099Hello Ax,
AxCrypt key sharing is a premium feature.
Free subscription users can use Key Management feature to send the encrypted file(s) to other users without sending the file password.
As per my colleague, Prabhu replied in the earlier of this forum,
Using Key Management feature, we can export our public keys and import some other AxCrypt user’s public keys to share the encrypted file to others.
We can export our public sharing key from the AxCrypt app menu File | Key Management | Export My Public Sharing Key.
After exporting our public key, we need to send the public key file to the 3rd party peoples(who is going to share and send the file with us).
Now, 3rd party people will import our public key file to their AxCrypt app using the menu option File | Key Management | Import Someone’s Public Sharing Key.
After importing the public key file, the user email will be displayed in the key sharing known contact list. Now the sender can key share the file with the known contacts.
For example: If you want to send the file to User-A,
Step 1: Ask the User-A to export and send the public key file to you.
Step 2: After getting the User-A’s public key, import the same into your AxCrypt app.
Step 3: Now select the file and choose Share Keys option in the right-click context menu.
Step 4: Then select the user from the known contacts list and click Share and Ok.
Step 5: Send the shared encrypted file to User A via email, drive or etc. Please check out our video tutorials at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoSoXBjq6iCG5232fHoWStA and our other documentation at https://forum.axcrypt.net/information/get-started/ to get started with AxCrypt.

July 19, 2019 at 16:49 in reply to: How can I make use of export/import public sharing key or Axcrpyt ID ? #14064Hello Ax,
Apologies for the delayed response.
If someone is trying to decrypt your AxCrypt encrypted file, then he/she needs your file password which was used for file encryption. Without the file password, nobody can decrypt the encrypted files.
When we encrypting the file, AxCrypt app will use the user’s public key and file password. The file password is the master key to decrypt the encrypted file(s).
As per our blog,
A public key – this key is non-secret and can be used by anyone to encrypt data. But it can’t be used to decrypt anything! We sometimes call this a sharing key.
A private key – this key must be secret and is required in order to decrypt any data encrypted using the public key. We sometimes call this a secret key.
Knowing the public key, it is computationally infeasible (i.e. impossible in layman terms) to derive the private key.
Yes, if someone knows your file password, then he/she can access your encrypted files(which are encrypted with the same password). That’s the reason we are advising users to don’t share the file password/AxCrypt password with others and use the Key sharing feature.
If someone knows your file password and he has access to your system, then he can access the encrypted files. So please always use strong passwords.
There is no need to share passwords in order to send or share files securely with others. AxCrypt has a key sharing feature letting you add recipients by email address, who when they receive the file can open it with their own AxCrypt password.
Key sharing feature will use the user’s public keys.
When you key share a file with user A, AxCrypt will use the user A’s public key in the encryption process. Please read our blog, we clearly explained there.
Please note: If you think somebody else knows your AxCrypt password, then please change the password with a strong one. Always use strong and lengthy passwords.
July 16, 2019 at 17:34 in reply to: How can I make use of export/import public sharing key or Axcrpyt ID ? #14048Hello Ax,
1) You misunderstood the Key management feature.
It is not like sending your password to someone. With the exported public key, we can’t decrypt the encrypted files.
Key management will help you/others to key share the encrypted file with others.
For example: If someone got your public key file, then he can import the same with the AxCrypt app and key share the file with you. This is an alternative way of key sharing without a premium subscription.
If you missed or someone got the public key file, no worries. It will help them to key share the file with you.
Whenever a file is encrypted, it’s encrypted with a random key. That key, in turn, is encrypted with the user’s password AND with the user’s public key.
For more information about the keys and password change, please visit our blog- https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/password-reset-axcrypt/ and https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/what-is-an-axcrypt-id/.
2) Internet is not required to encrypt/decrypt the files in the ACrypt app. Internet is for detecting the accounts and subscription information and syncing the same to our local.
As I said earlier, nobody can decrypt the file only with the public key file.
If someone knows your AxCrypt account password, then change(we recommend) or reset your AxCrypt account password with a new one.
Once changed the AxCrypt account password, then open the old encrypted files with file password(old password-which was used in the encryption) and update the file contents. Now all the updated files will be re-encrypted with a new password.
Key management helps/allows the user to key share the encrypted file(s) without a premium subscription.
July 9, 2019 at 17:50 in reply to: Can't open axcrypt file with double click outside of axcrypt program #14027Hello Mike,
Please check whether you had installed both the versions(1.x and 2.x) of AxCrypt app in your pc. If yes, uninstall the AxCrypt 1.x.
Still, you are facing the issue, please check whether your operating system has any pending updates? if yes, please update it to latest.
After trying all the steps, still, the problem exists, please write an email to support@axcrypt.net with a detailed error report.
Please follow the detailed instructions here to take the complete error report: https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/send-complete-error-report/ .
July 9, 2019 at 17:44 in reply to: Problem opening files after update from version 1 to version 2 #14025Hello Mike,
Please uninstall the AxCrypt 1.x app, Whether you had installed both the versions(1.x and 2.x) of AxCrypt app in your pc.
Most often, this error occurs because the file is not produced by AxCrypt. It can also happen when users mistakenly rename non-AxCrypt files to end with .axx, in which case renaming back to it’s appropriate extension will fix the issue since the file was never encrypted in the first place in this scenario.
Another scenario is that it is left-over after previous decryption was interrupted at the stage where the original is overwritten. The most common reason for this happening is that the file was damaged because of early removal of a USB drive, or a disconnected network drive.
I am sorry to say, If the file is actually damaged to this extent, no, it can’t be fixed. The data is just not there to decrypt it.
But we have a feature called Try Broken File. You can try to decrypt the corrupted AxCrypt encrypted files by navigating the menu File | Options | enable Debug from the AxCrypt app.
Now you are able to see the Debug the menu in the AxCrypt app. From the debug menu you have to choose Try Broken File menu option.
Now you will be prompted for file selection. Select the corrupted encrypted file and then AxCrypt will try to decrypt the file. If successfully decrypted, then you are able to see the decrypted file in the file location. Otherwise, AxCrypt can’t decrypt the same.

Hello Faheem,
Password reset is not a way to recover encrypted files! It’s only to allow you to sign in to the AxCrypt app and web. The new password will be used to encrypt new files.
If you think you almost know the password, we have simple software allowing you to try to find your password, and you can download the most recent version from https://account.axcrypt.net/Download/AxBruteForce.exe and read of how to use it at https://forum.axcrypt.net/axcrypt-brute-force/ . Please note that we cannot provide support beyond this.
For example: Try to encrypt a file with your AxCrypt password and then reset your AxCrypt account password using Reset Password Feature. Now if you open the encrypted file, you will be prompted to enter the file password (which is used for encryption of the file).
While viewing the encrypted file (having a different password than your sign in password), you have to enter the file password. If you enter the AxCrypt account password instead of file password, then you will get the alert message like “You are already logged in with this password! “. So you need to enter the actual file password to open/decrypt the encrypted files.

Hello Seak,
Sorry to say, Currently we do not have any plan to move the software to Microsoft store. In the future, If any situation comes like that, then we might move the app to the microsoft store.
Hello Christian,
AxCrypt 2.x does not support different passwords on different files features due to some security reasons. You can check our blog for more information.
There is no need to share passwords in order to send or share files securely with others. AxCrypt has a key sharing feature letting you add recipients by email address, who when they receive the file can open it with their own AxCrypt password.
Instead of encrypting with different passwords, You can use AxCrypt key sharing feature to share the encrypted files with more than one other users.
AxCrypt app works without internet also. Internet is required only for fetching the user account(s) and subscription information. Internet is not required for encrypting/decrypting the files.
AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.
AxCrypt will prompt the user to enter the file password when we decrypt/open the encrypted files which are encrypted other than the sign in password.

Hello Richard,
Yes, AxCrypt 2 asks you to sign in to your account, which AxCrypt 1 did not. We now use a single sign on model where the same password is used to sign in to our servers and to protect your files. The password that you’re being asked for is the password to your account, which you probably created recently.
AxCrypt will ask the user to sign in to the AxCrypt app when we start up the system.
AxCrypt 2 stays signed in until signed out, just like most similar applications such as your email. Once signed in, you can read, write and update information without having to re-enter the password, until signed out. The files are still encrypted, but your password is remembered until you sign out of AxCrypt. AxCrypt will automatically sign out when the screen saver goes active(when Inactivity Sign Out configured), or you can sign out manually.
Still, We can open/decrypt the AxCrypt 1.x encrypted files with the key file in AxCrypt 2.x. But we can’t encrypt files with the key file in AxCrypt 2.x.
The keyfile feature is only implemented for backward compatibility with AxCrypt 1.7 – so you can open files encrypted then with a keyfile.
We’ve decided not to implemented this feature, because it has caused some problems with very small benefits. You can choose to use a very good password instead – why not use a string similar to what’s in the keyfile for example? Exactly the same level of security.
The problem with keyfiles are that they need to be stored somewhere, and it’s very hard to ensure this is done properly.
We may in the future support various hardware tokens instead.
You can use our key sharing feature to fulfill your requirement. Just create two or more AxCrypt accounts for your wife and kids. Now encrypt a file and key share those files with your wife’s and kids email addresses.
For example, You can key share the financial encrypted files with your wife’s email address only. And key share the encrypted family photos with your kids and wife’s email addresses.
Hello Rob,
Sorry to say, there is no way to stop AxCrypt from even attempting to encrypt certain filetypes except stop encrypting those file types.
Instead, we can skip the particular type of warning popups by clicking the Do not show again check box in the warning dialog. If we ticked the checkbox, then we will not get the same type of warning alerts again. Still, you might get some other types of warning alerts based on the files or some other reasons.
Hello Kees,
Uninstall the AxCrypt app in your system and then install the latest version of the AxCrypt app.
We can download the latest version of AxCrypt app, here.
Still, you are facing the same problem please write an email to support@axcrypt.net.
Hello Christopher,
Please send the complete error report with some screenshots of the exceptions to support@axcrypt.net, so that we will try to recreate and resolve the same as soon as possible.
For the complete error report to troubleshoot the issue. Please follow the detailed instructions to take the complete error report: https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/send-complete-error-report/.
You can temporarily resolve the issue by using the End task or End process tree in Task manager | Details tab.
Hello Len,
The above exception happened might be the user account does not have enough access permission to create a file on that file path. or the previous process was dropped/stopped forcefully.
Good to hear, it is working again.
Yes, AxCrypt app used to create a temporary folder(C:\Users\‘User Name’\AppData\Local\AxCrypt) inside the users folder only. There AxCrypt will keep the local app settings cache and logs.
