The mobile apps are intended to complement the desktop application, by allowing files encrypted on the desktop to be opened and viewed on any mobile device.

Just to be clear, our mobile apps do not yet have the capability to encrypt or update encrypted files on mobile devices.

To view the encrypted files in your mobiles device, Sign in to the AxCrypt mobile app and click the unlock icon(on the top right corner) and then select the file from your mobile device or any cloud services like Google Drive, OneDrive and etc.

AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.

Unfortunately, if you do not know the password for an AxCrypt-encrypted file you cannot open it, even if you can sign in to the account. This is by design, it’s just this situation that AxCrypt is made for and it works like this even if you actually are the original owner of the file.

Please know about the password reset and change, actually both are different. You can check the difference between the Password reset and change here: https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/password-reset-axcrypt/ .

AxCrypt is a file encryption software with no backdoor. So please careful with your AxCrypt account password.

You will not lose your encrypted files by uninstalling the AxCrypt app. But whenever you want to open the encrypted files, you need AxCrypt application to decrypt the AxCrypt encrypted files.

Only the AxCrypt application can open/decrypt the AxCrypt encrypted files(.axx extensioned files), other apps can’t. So AxCrypt application is required to manage the encrypted files.

You can use the AxCrypt portable(no need installation) app to decrypt the existing files and encrypt more new files.

To download the portable version, https://forum.axcrypt.net/download/ .

If you do not want to use the AxCrypt anymore, please decrypt all the encrypted files before uninstalling the app.

Sign in to the AxCrypt app with your AxCrypt credentials. Then follow the below instructions to decrypt the encrypted file(s)

You can able to decrypt the AxCrypt encrypted file by navigating File | Stop Securing from the AxCrypt app.
Or
In the recent files tab, right click on the file(which you want to decrypt) and select Stop Securing and remove from list
Or
In windows explorer, right click on the file and Select AxCrypt > Decrypt.

AxCrypt secures files, individually. However, you can designate folders as ‘secured’. The folders will be monitored for new files, and AxCrypt will secure all new files with a single click, or when you sign out.

If the file in fact is located in a folder designated as “Secured”, it will soon be re-encrypted again since those folders are monitored for unencrypted files and will encrypt them when you sign out, or click the “Broom” clean up icon.

AxCrypt 2.x uses a more robust method for the automatic re-encryption, which sometimes means you as the user have to tell AxCrypt to do it. You’ll see this by the “broom” icon becoming red. This indicates there’s something in need of “clean up”, i.e. re-encryption.

If the secured folder is not exists in the Secured Folders tab then AxCrypt will not monitor for new files under the secured folders. So please add the secured folder again in the secured folders tab, if not exists in that.

We can add a new or already secured folder to the secured folders tab by right clicking in the secured folder tab and choosing Add Secured Folder menu option form the context menu.

Please note: Please check the created file whether opened in any other application or not? If opened, please close the opened application completely.

AxCrypt 2.x use a single sign on model where the same password is used to sign in to our servers and to protect your files.

First create an AxCrypt account with your email address and a strong password(minimum 8 characters) in our account site (https://account.axcrypt.net/en/Home/Register) or the AxCrypt app.

Then sign in to the AxCrypt app to open your encrypted files. AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.

Use the Open Secured icon or File menu option to open the encrypted files. If the file was encrypted with a different password than your sign in password, you will be prompted to enter the file password which was used in the file encryption.

If you open files encrypted with a different password than your sign in password, which often is the case directly after upgrading to version 2, you will be prompted for that original password. If the file was encrypted with version 1, it will then be automatically upgraded to version 2 and to use the new sign in password which means you won’t be prompted again for the old password.

Or you can use the File | Upgrade 1.x Files and AES 128 Files menu from the AxCrypt app, to upgrade your AxCrypt 1.x files to AxCrypt 2.x.

If you find that AxCrypt 2.x is unsuitable and you would like to use 1.x instead you are free to do so, but we will not be actively developing 1.x, nor will support be a priority. We recommend all users, old and new, to always use the most current released version of AxCrypt.

Please note: AxCrypt 1.x and 2.x are compatible in the sense that 2.x can open all files secured with 1.x. Files secured with AxCrypt 2.x are not possible to open with AxCrypt 1.x. Do not have both the versions in the system. Please uninstall the older version(if you have both).

Once signed in to the AxCrypt app with internet enabled, your account details will be updated in your local. You can also see the AxCrypt app status in the application header(There is no offline and local means its in online state).

After connecting to the internet still the app shows offline, please check the Always Offline option will be disabled or not, in the File | Options menu.

Now sign in to the AxCrypt app with online state and hereinafter you can use new password to sign in to the app in online and offline states.

Still you are experiencing the same issue, please clear the AxCrypt local contents via File | Options | Clear all settings & Restart or clicking the Reset button in the sign in dialog.

Now start the AxCrypt like a new installation.

Note: Please remember your old and new passwords to open the encrypted files. If you felt confused, please decrypt all the encrypted files with your passwords. then do the above.

This might be because of the file extension “.tax2017” was mapped with the AxCrypt app. As you know AxCrypt can open only with the “.axx” files. So please change the default application for the type .tax2017 from AxCrypt to some other application.

What’s happening when you are opening the encrypted file?

Actually AxCrypt decrypt the .axx file and create a temporary file in the AxCrypt local folder. So the temporarily file will be opened with the corresponding application.

Here .tax2017 file extension also mapped with the AxCrypt app. So again AxCrypt app trying to open the temporarily decrypted file, that means AxCrypt is trying to open the .tax2017 file. AxCrypt supports only .axx file. That’s why you are getting the error message.

So change the default app for the file extension .tax2017.  You can change the default app for the extension by using the following ways,

AxCrypt will encrypt most of the file types. We had encrypted and decrypted the jpg files in our local without any issues.

Yes, you are right. AxCrypt 2 does not support specific password for specific files feature due to some security issues.

In our blog(https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/use-of-different-passwords/),  you will find why we are not supporting more than one different passwords.

But AxCrypt 2.x has lot of unique and rich features. we increased the security level also. I will explain the difference between the two versions AxCrypt 1.x and 2.x,

AxCrypt 1.x and 2.x are compatible in the sense that 2.x can open all files secured with 1.x. In addition to that, 2.x implements of lot of new rich features, while some functions of 1.x are deprecated. Files secured with AxCrypt 2.x are not possible to open with AxCrypt 1.x. You cannot have both AxCrypt 1.x and 2.x installed at the same time.

AxCrypt 2.x will be available on many platforms and devices, while AxCrypt 1.x will always be limited to the Windows desktop. The new version is rewritten from the ground up on a new technological platform, and there are many differences.

AxCrypt 2 comes with newly improved and user-friendly user interface, account management(subscription information, password change and etc.) and more additional features.

We are stopped developing new features and fixing issues for the legacy version(AxCrypt 1.x). So we will suggest you to use the AxCrypt 2.x app.

Yes, With AxCrypt Premium user’s can encrypt/decrypt the folders and sub-folders as well.  AxCrypt renamed encrypted file(s) in  the folder will be decrypted into original state, means the exact copy of the original file. Also the file name(s) are restored back to original file name(If Anonymous Rename applied).

AxCrypt secures files, individually. However, you can designate folders as ‘secured’. The folders will be monitored for new files, and AxCrypt will secure all new files with a single click, or when you sign out.

You can also select multiple files, including all files in a folder, to be secured in a single operation. They still remain individual files, and the folder itself is not secured, just the files in it.

Hello Sezer,

AxCrypt app will create and delete the temporary copies of the encrypting/decrypting file(s) during the encryption/decryption process.

To perform the encryption and decryption action, AxCrypt app required the full access to the corresponding file path.

If the performing user account does not have the necessary access for the file path then AxCrypt app will throw the exception like what you are getting.

Please provide the necessary access(write access for the currently signed in user) to the file path(C:\Users\’user name’\Desktop – as per the screenshot) and then try to encrypt/decrypt the files under the specified location.

or create a new folder in your hard drive or desktop and put the files inside the folder. Then use AxCrypt to decrypt the files. Please make sure that the file has the necessary write access.

Also AxCrypt app will not encrypt the operating system folders and files.
