    New problem today… :-(

The Axcrypt application will not start. I get the following Windows error…

“Axcrypt failed to start. All Settings cleared”

“The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process”

I have changed nothing. I reboot and the problem remains. There is no indication of what can be done to resolve.

Also, I tired downloading and running the stand-alone exe of Axcrypt and the same thing happens.

I am running Windows 10 and the latest version of Axcrypt.

    Please help quickly!

    Thanks

    Hello Neil,

It might be because of some third party applications or any firewalls are blocking the AxCrypt application and its files.

If you have updated the encrypted files contents and which is pending for re-encryption, then please check the folder(C:\Users\”User Name”\AppData\Local\AxCrypt). If you found any subfolders inside the AxCrypt folder, take a back up of those folders. Then clean the local cache by the below described way.

Please delete the folder %LocalAppData%\AxCrypt(C:\Users\’User Name’\AppData\Local\AxCrypt) to clear the local cache and starts the AxCrypt app like a new.

Then uninstall the AxCrypt app and install the latest version of the AxCrypt app. You can download the same from our official website: https://forum.axcrypt.net/download/ .

Now install the AxCrypt app and try to start AxCrypting……

If the file in fact is located in a folder designated as “Secured”, it will soon be re-encrypted again since those folders are monitored for unencrypted files and will encrypt them when you sign out, or click the “Broom” clean up icon.

AxCrypt 2 uses a more robust method for the automatic re-encryption, which sometimes means you as the user have to tell AxCrypt to do it. You’ll see this by the “broom” icon becoming red. This indicates there’s something in need of “clean up”, i.e. re-encryption.

So after editing the encrypted files, we have to click the broom icon or sign out from the AxCrypt app to re-encrypt the updated files.

Please note: If you opened and updated an encrypted text file with notepad and at the same time you had opened an another notepad application also, then you have to close both the opened applications to re-encrypt the encrypted files. You have to close all the opened corresponding applications properly.

If the above does not help, Please send the complete error report with some screenshots of the exceptions, so that we will try to troubleshoot the same as soon as possible.

Still, if you are facing any issues, please feel free to contact our support(support@axcrypt.net) with detailed information about the issue.

You can also send the complete error report to troubleshoot the issue. Please follow the detailed instructions to take the complete error report: https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/send-complete-error-report/ .

    Hello Francois,

This might be because of problem with a dot net framework or some other third party applications are not allowing the AxCrypt app to run. Please check your operating system has any pending updates. If any, please update.

Please check whether your operating system has dot net framework 4.5 or above? If not please install the same. You can download the dot net framework here, https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30653 .

Also Please try to check any firewall or antivirus software’s are blocking the AxCrypt app or not? If blocked, please add the AxCrypt app in the app’s whitelist. Then restart your system and install the AxCrypt app.

Then uninstall the AxCrypt app and install the latest version of the AxCrypt app. You can download the same from our official website: https://forum.axcrypt.net/download/ . Now install the AxCrypt app and try to start AxCrypting……

If the above does not help, Please send the complete error report with some screenshots of the exceptions, so that we will try to troubleshoot the same as soon as possible.

You can also send the complete error report to troubleshoot the issue. Please follow the detailed instructions to take the complete error report: https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/send-complete-error-report/ .

Still, you are facing any issue, please provide detailed information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net. We are happy to help you.

    Hi,

in my case i got the same error after updating to the latest version. (Windows Server 2016)

    This solution  worked for me:

    1. firewall options
    2. rew rule
    3. adding rule for program
    4. choose path to axcrypt.exe
    5. allow connection

    Regards Raik

Also in my case an old version of Axcrypt (2014) suddenly stopped working this week: clicking on an encrypted file in Windows Explorer just showed a revolving icon but WE would not further respond, not even close. Clicking on Axcrypt.exe similarly froze the window. Deactivating the Windows 10 firewall cured this. So I have added an exception.

    Hello Hutch,

AxCrypt application is running in the background(not sure). Please check the task manager AxCrypt is running or not? If running means, stop the AxCrypt app. Then start the AxCrypt app. Now it’s working.  Or Check the AxCrypt app is Minimize or not?

Please explain detailed information about the issue and screenshot also, write an email to our support team support@axcrypt.net.

In reply to your enquiry, no, I couldn’t find Axcrypt running in the Task Manager. I think some very recent change to the Windows 10 firewall  was responsible, since also yesterday, on a different computer, it was necessary to add an exception to get Google Earth to run. In both cases both programs had previously been running without problems for years on these computers. In both cases, disabling the firewall (or adding an exception) cured the problem.

I understand your frustration! Have you tried checking Task Manager to ensure no background process is conflicting with Axcrypt? Sometimes, restarting Windows in Safe Mode and then attempting to start Axcrypt might help resolve the issue. If this persists, contacting Axcrypt’s support for tailored assistance could be beneficial.
