    Hello Nate,

No, the V2 command line is completely different and very limited still. The plan is to make a separate pure command-line version for V2.

    Sorry, no…

In the AxCrypt main window, use the File menu, then Options, then Clear all settings and exit.

    Hello Flint.

Unfortunately, if you do not know the password you cannot open an encrypted file. That is what AxCrypt is made for!

Please check the FAQ at https://forum.axcrypt.net/support/faq/ for more information.

That being said, as you say, if you know most of the password you might actually be able to find it by searching for variants. We have a software that does this to a limited extent, limited in the sense that the richness of expression for describing the variations to try is limited.

You can download the most recent version here: https://account.axcrypt.net/Download/AxBruteForce.exe and there is a description of how to use it here: https://forum.axcrypt.net/axcrypt-brute-force/ .

Please note that we cannot provide support beyond this.

    Hello Dave,

Click “OK”, and then File | Options | Clear all settings and exit .

It’s a bug that is fixed in the next release, but for now this is the work-around.

    Hi Bob,

Sorry, no, a lot of things are happening and it’s still very high on our to-do list. We’re working on a Mac OS X version, we’re adding some features to our account web site, we’re updating the mobile apps. We’re also just introducing a new developer resource  so we’ll start getting even more done in the next few weeks I hope.

    Hello charlotte,

Use the Key Sharing function. Add the recipient to the list of users. Then send the file to the recipient.

    Hello AxKrypt,

Sorry, I did not realize the subject of the post was a question, since the quote you posted answers it I thought.

AxCrypt is free as it is, but you can subscribe to Premium which gives you additional functions and features. See https://forum.axcrypt.net/pricing/ .

    Hello Ken,

FYI – AxCrypt does not work like that at all. We do store some things our servers (specifically an AxCrypt-encrypted backup of your private key), but these are only for *convenience*. You can always decrypt your files if you have the file, AxCrypt software, and know the original password in effect of the time of encryption. You do not need any access to our servers, Internet or anything else.

    Hi albatros,

The iOS environment is complicated. AxCrypt actually can’t open anything except AxCrypt-files. It then delegates to iOS to determine the appropriate application to open the decrypted file. This does require the app itself to register that it can open the file in question.

I’m not sure how Keepass does, perhaps it doesn’t register itself?

If you use a file manager to browse to the db file, does your phone offer to open it in the Keepass app? Exactly what Keepass iOS app are you using? We’ll try this out, but it would be nice to know what app you’re using as there seems to be several.

Speaking on the subject of Keepass, you might want to try our online password manager for the same purpose…

    Hello Vanon,

Yes, we’ll be adding options to control the sign out behavior – everyone wants it differently so we’ll be adding that.

    Hello Vanon & Bertram,

AxCrypt is about encryption, not access control. This is an important distinction, I wrote a blog post about this some time ago, in slightly different context, but it still has some valid points about this. See https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/encryption-vs-authentication/ .

The point is that it’s all about the password. To protect the device, you should use screen locks and similar mechanisms. Adding a “screen lock” to AxCrypt would just confuse the issue I think. Use a strong password, and available device locking!

    Hi Vanon,

Yes, it’s a limitation at the moment. We’ll make it so if you remove it, it stays removed.

    Hi albatros,

The intention is that the app should give you the choice of apps supporting the file in question. There does need to be an app, the “Open in” functionality only lists apps that support the file in question I think.

If you take the original file (or at least a file of the original type) and send it to your phone, what happens then when you try to open it?

    Hi Ted,

That is really strange. I have heard of similar, but not identical issues with OneDrive. It appears it’s not particularly smart about synchronization. You can’t just resolve the conflict and it works then?

Can you perhaps send a screen shot of the OneDrive conflict message?

    Hello again Laurent,

Léo is entirely right, if you want to have a more direct and priority support, do use the Premium support function. But here in the forums you can also get very good advice from our community!

Whatever you do though – don’t pose the same question in several places, because that’ll just cause us to spend time answering the same thing several times. If you’d like to switch to support email, just send in a request.
