Hello Don,
AxCrypt 2 can decrypt all AxCrypt 1 files – if you know the password.
Actually, from what you say, my conclusion is that you are in fact not using the same password that you used for the file when signing in to AxCrypt. Either you misremember, or you mistyped it this time around.
Hello!
If any of you having these problems are interested, We have a release candidate build available that tries to adress some startup issues. We are not sure if it will help, because we have not really been able to reproduce the issue.
To get this version, please send an email to support att axcrypt dott net and request it.
Hello Fardayek and others,
We are working on it! The problem right now is to reproduce it.
Hello Victor,
Great, good luck and thanks!
Hello STF!
Thank you. Will do.
Hello Vic,
Sorry about that. It’s on the to-do list..
Please click “Cancel”, and then go to File | Options | Clear All Settings and Exit
Hello Steve,
AxCrypt will encrypt any file that “looks like a file in a folder” on your computer. This is how most apps work with files. Very few have direct support for specific providers. For cloud service providers, this is typically done by synchronizing the cloud storage with a “mirror” folder on your computer. AxCrypt will happily encrypt those files, in the synchronized local copy. These will then become synchronized with the cloud and all is well.
Hello Zlatan,
Yes, it is very unfortunate that the anti-virus companies do this. As a typical user, it’s very hard to see the difference and understand the consequence of allowing what is essentially a man-in-the-middle attack.
The way AxCrypt (and encryption in general) works, if a password has been compromised all data encrypted under the compromised password should be treated as potentially compromised. With AxCrypt you can indeed change the password, but the original password used when the file was encrypted remains also valid.
So, what you need to do is to re-encrypt (decrypt + encrypt) the files that you really would like to re-assert security for.
Hello John,
Thanks for letting us know. That is indeed very strange… We’ve not seen that behavior at all. We’ll investigate during the day. What has changed of any significance in the released version is that we’re building with a new toolset, there could be an issue with that. Stay tuned. We’ll fix asap.

Hello Alex, and thanks Jordan!
We don’t just yet support convenient use of multiple AxCrypt accounts in a single Windows sign in session but it’s planned. Currently the easiest way to work around this limitation is to do File | Options | Clear All Settings and Exit, then type the email again.
Another note if you’re actually sharing one Windows log in with several people using TeamViewer. TeamViewer has become a very popular vector for breaking into computers and encrypting files for ransom. Do make sure that you have a very strong password on the system and that all users are aware of the necessity to keep that password secret.
Hello abuhelow and thanks Jordan!
Just a small additional comment. AxCrypt 2 supports AxCrypt 1-style key files to open AxCrypt 1-files. But it does require you to know the password used as well, just like before with AxCrypt 1.
August 16, 2017 at 08:45 in reply to: Can I have a free trial period before I purchase a premium package? #7559Hello Jerry,
Please contact support att axcrypt dott net via email for requests like this. In general, the answer is sure, but for your situation it doesn’t really make sense. The free version will do all you want, both encrypt and decrypt. The second request sounds more like you have a “one time situation” where you’d like to use Premium to encrypt it with the stronger encryption and then you’re done. That doesn’t to be honest sound like a trial. But, we’ll be happy to extend a trial period within reason and as long as we don’t get swamped with such requests (since it requires manual interaction and thus time).
