Thank you Josh!
October 6, 2017 at 12:58 in reply to: Does axcrypt support hardware accelerated encryption/decryption #7999Hello Hrishi,
Only so far as the underlying .NET libraries do, which I really don’t know if they do. So, I’d say “no”.
In the case of the AxCrypt app, it’s not really relevant, because even unaccelerated that’s not where the bottleneck typically is. The bottleneck is shuffling data to and from the disk. This is true even in the case of fast SSD drives. There are other issues as well affecting performance well before an optimized encryption implementation has any effect.
If there was a real demand we could of course use an optimized implementation, we may well do so if/when we chose to support Crypto++ – then mostly for the FIPS 140-2 validation rather than performance of course.
October 6, 2017 at 11:58 in reply to: No prompt from AxCrypt for logon and password for a new site #7996Hello Webby,
Ok, it was just the mention of the desktop app that was confusing in this context. Some users have a password file encrypted with the desktop app, and I was unsure if this is what you referred to when you said “AxCrypt database”.
So, you’re using the online password manager, and this issue is about that. In this case we don’t have to worry about the desktop app – but if you have it you should of course keep it up to date. But it’s not relevant for the online password manager.
You then write: “I have to be logged in to the AxCrypt web site in order for the stored login/password details to be displayed for the site I am trying to log in to. Is this the way it is supposed to work?”
Well, of course we won’t display anything in the password manager web, if you’re not signed in there. But, being signed in to https://account.axcrypt.net or not will not affect how *other* sites work, for example if they display pre-filled-in account information. Being signed in to other services may affect this, for example being signed in to your Google account if you’re using Chrome can affect this behavor. But not AxCrypt.
The AxCrypt online password manager tries to keep things simple with little or no complicated integration. It’s essentially a standalone separate web site from which you can lookup, and if you wish, copy/paste account information to other applications and web pages.

Unfortunately it makes very little sense to me ;-)
What do you mean when you say “AxCrypt database”?
Are you a user of the online password manager, accessed via https://forum.axcrypt.net ?
In any case – AxCrypt does not affect your browsers behavior vis a vis password entry.
The desktop app AxCrypt does not affect your browser either. Also, 2.1.1489 is really ancient, please update!
Hello David, and thank you Carl!
Carl makes most of the relevant points. I’d still not call software wipe useless – as you noticed, all you could recover with a commercial tool was the file name. That’s still pretty useful.
But Carl is right – to securely sanitize media today against a really resourceful attacker, you need thorough physical destruction. A power drill is a good data sanitization tool.

Hello Zeev,
It’s really all about resources, and also keeping options down. As you say, “it’s only one additional line in the menu”, problem is there many more requests for features in the context menu. If we had the inclination and resources to say yes to all of them, it really will become quite cluttered.
Nevertheless, this one we probably will implement, but as mentioned it’s also about resources. We’ll get there! But it may take a little more time.
Hello,
This seems to be a glitch in the macOS version. Files can sometimes get “stuck” so that the clean broom icon doesn’t work and AxCrypt thinks you have the file open for editing somewhere, and thus won’t allow you to decrypt and forget about it since you’d then risk losing your edits.
The work-around for now seems to be to completely exit AxCrypt. and then click the broom. We’ll be fixing this asap.
Thank you Tim! Good advice.
Hello Anonymous and thank you Pete!
Yes, please watch the videos and also read more at https://forum.axcrypt.net/ (getting started is a good place to start!).
Thank you Ivan!
Hello GG,
This message comes from the unmaintained and unsupported version 1.x of AxCrypt.
It indicates that the file is damaged beyond repair – or it is some other kind of file renamed to end with .axx
Hi Phil,
Yes, that’s pretty much the plan…
