    Hello Daniel,

AxCrypt does not hide files or folders. It encrypts them. Hiding adds no actual security.

    Hello Rikki,

Are you sure about this – that the temporary files remain even after the red broom icon is cleared or AxCrypt is exited? AxCrypt does indeed temporarily decrypt the files to the location in question, and then open them from there. Once you are done, or exit AxCrypt, they will be overwritten and deleted (after re-encryption if required). This is at least how it is designed to work.

    Hello Lex,

Could you be more specific about the situation, version of AxCrypt, and send a screen shot of the actual error message?

    Hello Marny,

Secured folders with AxCrypt means that a folder is watched and monitored for changes. The encryption of files in the folder results in the same result as if you do it manually.

There are normally no problems with backup of AxCrypt-encrypted files. They are just files.

    Hello Dingus,

The error indicates the file is damaged. You can try to decrypt it anyway, you’ll find instructions at http://www.axantum.com/ where you can find a registry setting to enable it to try even with a broken file.

The version you are using is unsupported and unmaintained, but you will find information as mentioned above.

There should be no link to “axcrypt dot com” on any FAQ we have – can you give a URL to that page? (We’ve never actually had that domain).

    Hello Jacek,

It should work as you expect – the same password online or offline, and it should sync. Can you please send a complete error report to support, so we can check just where it has gone wrong? https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/send-complete-error-report/ .

    Hello sebastien,

There’s no real difference between the new and the old, and as long as you know the password to the encrypted file you are trying to open, you can.

Please describe in more detail, just what the problem is and we’ll try to help you out.

    Hello Frauke,

Please provide a screen shot of whatever message you are receiving or how it looks like. We can’t determine what the problem may be from your description unfortunately.

    Hello Dale,

Do check out the videos etc on our website explaining how key sharing works. Also, you can always use the free trial month to actually try out exactly how it works and how it matches your scenario.

AxCrypt as such does not store or share files, so the question about a folder is more up to how you make the folder available to several users. AxCrypt can keep all files in a folder encrypted easily enough, but it does not encrypt the actual folder. AxCrypt only encrypts files.

    Hello elwin,

One strong password is actually safer than many not-so-strong passwords, and just as safe as many strong passwords.

No, having access to your computer does not typically mean they have access to your encrypted files. However, if someone does have access to your computer, you can in principle no longer trust that computer for anything since any kind of software may have been installed by the person gaining access. The good thing about AxCrypt is just that – gaining access to the computer will not (at least in the first stage) gain access to encrypted files.

    Hello Lynn,

Please contact support and do send screen shots. I’ve looked at the logs, and it’s not apparent that you were in contact with our servers from your PC. I can see that you signed up and validated the account, but then I see no further activity. (We don’t log very much, but we should see something for example a failed attempt to contact our server.

    Hello Romy,

It should work just as you’ve done, so something is wrong – either with the file or with the program. We’ve actually not had any reports like this, so we’d like to investigate this further.

Please follow the instructions here: https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/send-complete-error-report/ .

This should give us some more information to go on, to understand just what and where it goes wrong.

You can always download the legacy AxCrypt 1.x (in this case I’d suggest the legacy AxDecrypt.exe standalone program since it can co-exist with version 2) to decrypt it, by browsing to http://www.axantum.com/LegacyStart.html and select the appropriate download there.
