    Hello Forrest,

If you have AxCrypt 1.x installed (Axantum AxCrypt), just go to control panel and remove it. It should have been removed when installing AxCrypt 2 though. I am assuming you are referring to folders in “Program Files”.

    Hello Bridterry,

Ok, sorry to hear it. Thanks for the additional input. We’ll check that so that the message is appropriate.

    Hello David,

The Mac build is perhaps a little outdated and we have improved this, but you should be able to try to decrypt the file. You can’t use the regular open file, you should try to decrypt the file (and only a copy of the file, don’t work on the original, keep that unchanged) from within AxCrypt.

    Hello Bridterry,

Just what message are you getting from the app? Exactly…?

In fact, you only have a free account – and the android app is a paid feature :-( . But, it should so – not just not accept the password!

    Hello romy,

A user with a free accouint can’t really encrypt a file to share with others – not without also divulging and sharing his/her own supposedely personal and very secret password.

With a paid subscription, you can share. The recipient will then be able to open the file with his/her own password. No sharing of any passwords.

    Hello Bridterry,

Please verify that you can sign in to http://www.axcrypt.net with the email / password, then use the same on your Android device. axantum.com is retired as far as logging in is concerned, and is no longer directly associated with AxCrypt.

Also, something is wrong if you’re using two different passwords. AxCrypt 2 and the Android app and the sign in to http://www.axcrypt.net all use the same password.

    Hello Nick,

If you’ve encrypted them all, they should be synchronized to your local hard drive. You can select files and folders from Windows Explorer, and if you have an active Premium subscription there is an option to “Include Subfolders and files”.

You need to right-click the files on your local PC, you can’t do it from the browser.

    Hello Tom,

Thank you for reporting this. Can you please take a screenshot of the situation and contact our support: support att axcrypt dott net ?

Are you sure the file is not a shortcut link or perhaps part of a zip file archive?

    Hello Bhanu,

Please contact our business sales people, they can explain all this in detail. Start here https://forum.axcrypt.net/support/axcrypt-business/ and https://forum.axcrypt.net/axcrypt-business/ .

AxCrypt Business always include a management console where designated administrators can assign and de-assign membership to the subscription as needed. This is also where you topup and renew your subscription.

    Hi Jack,

Yes, well, the setup is slightly more complicated in that you need to register an email, get the email, verify the email and then set a password that passes some pretty strict complexity requirements.

The main reason for the extended process was that it was *too* easy to get started with AxCrypt 1, type a password twice and encrypt some stuff. Then either because the password was mistyped, or because it was simply not properly noted, the data was lost.

We have almost none of that now with AxCrypt 2. The sign in requirement and the stored hash on the server, makes it really hard for example to mistype a password, encrypt a file, and then weeks or days later realize it won’t open.

The use of a single password also reduces the confusion about which password was used for a particular file.

All in all, most of the changes related to sign up and sign in are actually based on experiences from users losing data in AxCrypt 1. Some of them are of course also related to the fact that we’re trying to make an honest living off it so yes, it’s monetized ;-).

If you find the quirks to be reproducible or frequent, do send a bug report to us!

    Once again, thanks!

    Hello Jack!

Thank you for making the effort, and informing both us and other users of your experiences. Feedback like yours is extremely important for us when deciding priorities going forward.

We do have a plan for “password based” key sharing, i.e. alternate passwords very similar to having different passwords for different files.

However, just to be transparent, we are trying to make AxCrypt really great and to do so we need resources. This means that most, if not all, future improvements will require a paid subscription of some form.

I am happy you’re happy with AxCrypt 2 and found a way to manage the transition. I’m not as happy to hear that you find AxCrypt 2 harder to use than AxCrypt 1 – the intention has been the opposite, so we’ll have to improve that! Thank you once again.

    Hello Jair,

Please refer to the instructions at http://www.axcrypt.net/ . There are videos and text explaining how everything works.

If you have encrypted a file with a password, you need to know that password to decrypt the file. You can reset the password for the account, but this only gives account access – you still need to know the password used to encrypt the file.

    Hello romy,

Key sharing is a paid feature – receiving key shared files is a free feature. So, to be able to encrypt and key share files seamlessly within your research group you’ll all need to have a paid subscription.

    Hello Eric,

It’s hard to say exactly, but typically this happens if you’ve cleaned out all files in the Windows temp folder for example, or used the built-in ‘Clear All Settings and Exit’ function of AxCrypt.

You may also have created a new user on your Windows computer or something similar.

There should be no problem entering your email, and if you are online it will see that you already have an AxCrypt ID and then you just enter your regular password like before and you’re up and running again.

    Hello Jake,

This does not in any way sound like a direct AxCrypt problem. An AxCrypt-encrypted file is just that – a file. There’s nothing special or magic or anything about it. It’s just a file. It’s nothing I’ve heard about before – disappearing AxCrypt files.

Sounds like it’s hard for us to help you out here. Sorry…
