Hello Andy,
Here’s the thing – AxCrypt will install a 64-bit shell extension (as the right-click thingy is called) on a 64-bit Windows system. Your problem here is probably that Xplorer2 is 32-bit. 64-bit shell extensions won’t work with 32-bit shells, and vice versa. Instead of getting 32-bit Windows (which actually will fix this particular scenario most likely), get a 64-bit Xplorer2 instead. 32-bit is going out of style real quick now.
Hello Zorkoff,
The password reset option is probably reset because you’re offline.
That nicely segues into your gripe about the email being displayed. That’s just the thing – we’ve helped quite a few people by way of screenshots with full information. For example – when they are not signed, or are trying to sign in, to the wrong email. No, it’s not necessary for the program to function – but nor is help texts, tool tips, documentation – or even menus. But it’s darn useful!
Here’s how AxCrypt 2 works regarding passwords:
One password to rule them all – for the account, for sign in to the app for encryption and decryption. So, when signed in, all new files, and converted version 1 files, will be encrypted with the current sign in password.
If, however, you try to open a file that cannot be opened with the sign in password, then we’ll prompt you for a ‘file password’. This typically happens at the beginning after an upgrade, when the AxCrypt 2 account has a different password then the one used before with the old AxCrypt 1.
Hello Zorkoff,
If you please can provide more information about your problem, and if you can send a screenshot explaining where the problem is it is the best.
How to take a screenshot is explained here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13776/windows-use-snipping-tool-to-capture-screenshots .
Hello Dennis,
What message are you getting when you try to open your password file?
Hello Peter,
Happy to oblige! Just don’t put them in OneDrive. AxCrypt does not move anything into the cloud. It just tries to make it easy for you to have encrypted files in the cloud – should you wish so.
Hello Corinne,
AxCrypt 2 actually uses the account you once created with us when you registered, so the password it’s asking for is the password to that account.
If you do not remember the password to your account, you can always reset it. This is not a way to recover encrypted files! It’s only to allow you to sign in to the AxCrypt app and web. The new password will be used to encrypt new files. Go to https://account.axcrypt.net/Home/PasswordReset to do this, or you can also go there from AxCrypt with File | Options | Password Reset .
Hello Tim & Aleš,
Technically it’s not that big a thing, but as Aleš notes, there’s a little bit more to it to go to production. There are many places we need to support it in, and also – the original reason for not supporting it was not that it was hard to do. It was because we have experience from AxCrypt 1 that some users really, really mess things up with this enabled…
Therefore we need to add several safeguards. One is a “enter password to confirm” when enabling the option. The other is probably some kind of warning when it will lead to very many files being encrypted. Finally, we’ll need to forbid some paths (such as C:\).
Hello Andy,
Are you using any Windows Explorer replacement?
AxCrypt 2 works fine in the context menu for 100s of thousands of users, so it should work!
No, we don’t have any custom setup options.
Hello J,
You might want to read my blog post about just this: https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/leaving-computer-axcrypt/ .
Hello Dennis,
You probably have Lavasoft Web Companion installed, even if you don’t know it. One way to check is to look for the file C:\Windows\System32\LavasoftTcpService64.dll . Even if you don’t find it there, it may be installed elsewhere.
If you’d like further help, please send us more info to support att axcrypt dott net.
In order to provide us with detailed information to help us help you, for this situation we’d like a full error report. Please follow the detailed instructions here: http://www.axcrypt.net/blog/send-complete-error-report/ .
Hello John,
Did you install AxCrypt or download the standalone/portable version?
You must run the installer for right-click to work.
We have seen issues that may be related to the situation when files are open in the old version during the upgrade.
Hello Dennis,
This is probably due to you having a broken third party software called “Lavasoft Web Companion” installed.
Please check the FAQ at http://www.axcrypt.net/support/faq/ for more information.
Ok. The message you refer to indicates the file in question is damaged. When was it most recently opened? Was it open in the previous version when you upgraded?
Hello Roselyne,
Of course you can open a file encrypted with version 1 with version 2. You do need to know the password.
Concerning that the file opens without entering the password, it’s by design, AxCrypt remains signed in until signed out.
