<p style=”text-align: left;”>New to encryption so please forgive my ignorance.</p>
I just need to secure sensitive files on a usb drive so downloaded Axcrypt free version (standalone on the drive). What I don’t understand is what is actually encrypted, the files themselves or the password to gain access to them?

Surely if someone works out my password that would defeat the whole point of having the files encrypted?

Is there something else within Axcrypt I should be using / taking advantage of as well?

    Hello Matthew,

AxCrypt helps to secure your files and folders. AxCrypt will use the AxCrypt account password to encrypt/decrypt the files. The account password is used/involved to encrypt the files with the AxCrypt app.

AxCrypt 2 works just like your email software or most other password-protected systems. You sign in once and remain signed in until signed out. Just like you can read many emails without entering the password every time, AxCrypt will do the same. The files are still encrypted, but your password is remembered until you sign out of AxCrypt.

AxCrypt stays signed in until signed out, just like most similar applications such as your email. Once signed in, you can read, write and update information without having to re-enter the password, until signed out. AxCrypt will automatically sign out when the screen saver goes active(based on the Inactivity Sign Out configuration), or you can sign out manually.

Please check out our video tutorials at and our other documentation at to get started with AxCrypt.
