    Hello Kaloyan,

AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.

Please note: AxCrypt is file encryption with no backdoor, that means AxCrypt do not store user’s account password, anywhere. Nobody can decrypt the encrypted files without the file password used in the file encryption. This is the way AxCrypt app was designed.

Unfortunately, if you do not know the password for an AxCrypt-encrypted file you cannot open it, even if you can sign in to the account. This is by design, it’s just this situation that AxCrypt is made for and it works like this even if you actually are the original owner of the file.

If you know some part of the password, then you can download and use the most recent version of AxBruteForce from https://account.axcrypt.net/Download/AxBruteForce.exe , to decrypt the files.

If you do not remember the password to your account, you can always reset it. This is not a way to recover encrypted files! It’s only to allow you to sign in to the AxCrypt app and web. The new password will be used to encrypt new files. Go to https://account.axcrypt.net/Home/PasswordReset to do this, or you can also go there from AxCrypt with File | Options | Password Reset.

For more info about Password Reset: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6whtjSb3pc  and https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/password-reset-axcrypt/ .

If the above does not help, please provide more information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net .

    Hello skyeler,

You can use the key file(which was used to encrypt a file) to decrypt the encrypted files.

Unfortunately, If you do not have the key file, sorry to say, you can’t decrypt the encrypted files which are all encrypted with the key file. That’s the way AxCrypt is designed.

Still, you are facing any issue, please provide detailed information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net. We are happy to help you.

well its been years since iv been able to access the files but iv got half of the file of it tho i don’t think it would really help since i split the actual file up into an 2 pieces with winrar and put them on separate usb’s

if i ever find the 2nd usb it’l solve my problem but i guess there’s not really a quick fix for my situation

Trying to decrypt files from over 7 years ago.  I remember parts of the password because I haven’t deviated from my password convention too much.  Trying to run the tool in Windows 10.  Does this tool still work?

    Getting runtime error.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

    ************** Exception Text **************
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly ‘Newtonsoft.Json, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=30ad4fe6b2a6aeed’ or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
    ..

Tried installing .net framework and other run times.  Just keep getting same error.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

    Hello AndrewC,

Please explain which AxCrypt version do you have used? If you are using the old version, please use the latest version AxCrypt app and try to decrypt the file again.

Please check your operating system has any pending updates. If any, please update.

Also please check whether your operating system has dot net framework 4.5 or above? If not please install the same. You can download the dot net framework here, https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30653 .

Then uninstall the AxCrypt app and install the latest version of the AxCrypt app. You can download the same from our official website: https://forum.axcrypt.net/download/ . Now install the AxCrypt app and try to start AxCrypting……

Still, you are facing any issue, please provide detailed information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net. We are happy to help you.
