onicrystalBonjour,
Hello,
In version 1 of axcrypt when I secured my files I was not asked for a password it was sufficient to connect to his VIA AxCrypt account once connected I could open my files or blocked, since the update is asked me my my axcrypt account password that i enter then when i want to unblock my file i am being asked for a file password i have ever put, so i do not understand what axcrypt password is talking about.
Hello onicrystal,
AxCrypt 2 asks you to sign in to your account, which AxCrypt 1 did not. We now use a single sign on model where the same password is used to sign in to our servers and to protect your files. The password that you’re being asked for is the password to your account, which you probably created when you first installed AxCrypt.
For more about, why sign in required in AxCrypt v2.x? please check our blog: https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/encryption-vs-authentication/
AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.
Unfortunately, if you do not know the password for an AxCrypt-encrypted file you cannot open it, even if you can sign in to the account. This is by design, it’s just this situation that AxCrypt is made for and it works like this even if you actually are the original owner of the file.
Password reset is not a way to recover encrypted files! It’s only to allow you to sign in to the AxCrypt app and web.
After resetting your AxCrypt account with a new password, You will get access to the AxCrypt account server and application too. But you can’t decrypt the old encrypted without knowing the file password(which was used in the file encryption).
Because the encrypted files before password reset, holding an old password. So you have to enter the file password to decrypt/open the old AxCrypt encrypted files(which are all encrypted before the password reset).
After password reset, the newly encrypted files holding the new password. So you can open/decrypt the newly encrypted files without entering your file password.
If the file was encrypted with a different password than your sign in password, then you have to enter the file password(which was used in the file encryption) while viewing/decrypting the encrypted file.
For example: Try to encrypt a file with your AxCrypt password and then reset your AxCrypt account password using Reset Password Feature. After that Sign in to the AxCrypt app with your new password. Now if you open the old encrypted file, you will be prompted for enter the file password (which is used in the file encryption).
While viewing the encrypted file (having different password than your sign in password), you have to enter the file password. If you enter the AxCrypt account password instead of file password, then you will get the alert message like “You are already logged in with this password! “. So you need to enter the file password.
If you think you almost know the password, we have simple software allowing you to try to find your password, and you can download the most recent version from https://account.axcrypt.net/Download/AxBruteForce.exe and read of how to use it at https://forum.axcrypt.net/axcrypt-brute-force/ . Please note that we cannot provide support beyond this.
