Some time ago I went to version 2 and then didn’t have occasion to use product for awhile. Now I do. I can’t seem to locate whatever I did with the password. And I don’t see any references to the rules for forming the pw’s so I’m having real trouble getting started again. I can’t open the product. Some correspondents have just sent me some AXX files and I can’t get into them. What do I do? Thank you.

AxCrypt passwords cannot be recovered – there is no backdoor. Unfortunately if you’ve forgotten your password you’re locked out of your files forever.

From version 2 a ‘password reset‘ feature was introduced but it will not allow you to regain access to your previously encrypted files but it does allow you to continue using AxCrypt to encrypt new files.

If your correspondent has sent you a files encrypted in version 2 then reset your password using the link above and ask them to use the ‘share’ feature; if they haven’t already – here’s a tutorial if they need it.
