    Hello lorre,

We can run AxCrypt 1.x application in the Windows 2008, Vista, 7, 8 and 10 operating systems.

If the file is really damaged then we couldn’t retrieve the file contents.

Please try to install the latest version of AxCrypt 2.x or AxCrypt 1.x in your system. Then try to decrypt the file.

We can identify the file damage(s) or try to recover the damaged file with the AxCrypt 2.x.

Still you are facing any issues, please feel free to contact our support via support@axcrypt.net with detailed information about the issue.

Please check out our video tutorials of AxCrypt 2 at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoSoXBjq6iCG5232fHoWStA and our other documentation at https://forum.axcrypt.net/information/get-started/ to get started with AxCrypt.

i’m not able to login on my account to decrypt the file. Here you will find the different solution that I already tried :

    – reset my Password

    – introduce the Password but this one is consider as not valid one

    – introduce the Password of the file received (different from my personal PSWD)

    – I tried to delete my account + recreate it

I’m using this version of the tool : 2.1.1.1585.0 on windows 7 professional.

thank you in advance for your help.

    Hello Steve,

Password reset is not a way to recover encrypted files! It’s only to allow you to sign in to the AxCrypt app and web. The new password will be used to encrypt new files.

After resetting your AxCrypt account with a new password, You will get access to the AxCrypt account server and application too. But you can’t decrypt the old encrypted without knowing the file password(which was used in the file encryption).

Because the encrypted files before password reset, holding an old password. So you have to enter the file password to decrypt/open the old AxCrypt encrypted files(which are all encrypted before the password reset).

After password reset, the newly encrypted files holding the new password. So you can open/decrypt the newly encrypted files without entering your file password.

Both the Password reset and change are not the same. Please read the difference between Password reset and change in our blog, https://forum.axcrypt.net/blog/password-reset-axcrypt/.

AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.

If the file was encrypted with a different password than your sign in password, then you have to enter the file password while viewing/decrypting the encrypted file.

For example: Try to encrypt a file with your AxCrypt password and then reset your AxCrypt account password using Reset Password Feature. Now if you open the encrypted file, you will be prompted for enter the file password (which is used for encryption of the file).

So please try to remember the file password(which was used in the encryption process) to decrypt/open the old encrypted files.

If you think you almost know the password, we have simple software allowing you to try to find your password, and you can download the most recent version from https://account.axcrypt.net/Download/AxBruteForce.exe and read of how to use it at https://forum.axcrypt.net/axcrypt-brute-force/. Please note that we cannot provide support beyond this

Still, you are asking any issues, please provide more information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net.

    Bonjour !

Il m’est impossible d’ouvrir mes fichiers cryptés qui concerne mes codes d’accès aux sites que je visite !

    J’utilise : Windows 10

    Version : Axcryopt 2.1.1464.0

    Hello Machot,

AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.

Unfortunately, if you do not know the password for an AxCrypt-encrypted file you cannot open it, even if you can sign in to the account. This is by design, it’s just this situation that AxCrypt is made for and it works like this even if you actually are the original owner of the file.

Still, you can open/decrypt the encrypted files with the original file password(which was used in the file encryption process).

So please try to remember the file password(which was used in the encryption process) to decrypt/open the encrypted files.

If you think you almost know the password, we have simple software allowing you to try to find your password, and you can download the most recent version from https://account.axcrypt.net/Download/AxBruteForce.exe and read of how to use it at https://forum.axcrypt.net/axcrypt-brute-force/ . Please check: If you are trying to decrypt the someone’s AxCrypt encrypted file, then you needs the someone’s file password which was used for file encryption.

Still, you are facing any issue, please provide detailed information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net. We are happy to help you.

    Hello quet,

You can open/decrypt the previously encrypted document(1.x) with the latest version(2.x). Still, you can open/decrypt the old encrypted files with the original file password(which was used in the file encryption process).

AxCrypt 1.x and 2.x are compatible in the sense that 2.x can open all files secured with 1.x. In addition to that, 2.x implements of lot of new rich features, while some functions of 1.x are deprecated. Files secured with AxCrypt 2.x are not possible to open with AxCrypt 1.x. You cannot have both AxCrypt 1.x and 2.x installed at the same time.

AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.

So please try to remember the file password(which was used in the encryption process) to decrypt/open the old encrypted files.

    Hello Elo,

AxCrypt is a file encryption software with no backdoor. That means, Nobody can decrypt the encrypted files without the file password used in the file encryption. This is the way AxCrypt app was designed.

Please use AxBruteForce tool to recover the encrypted files.

If you think you almost know the password, we have simple software allowing you to try to find your password, and you can download the most recent version from https://account.axcrypt.net/Download/AxBruteForce.exe   and read of how to use it at https://www.axcrypt.net/axcrypt-brute-force/. AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.

    Hello Philippe,

AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.

I think you perhaps are not careful enough when you type the password – or you are not aware that upper and lower case characters are different, and spaces and accents are significant when typing the password.

I suggest you use the ‘show password’ option in both the web and the app, and ensure that what is type is truly identical. This means having the same casing, the same spacing, the same umlauts and accents etc. The following passwords are all different:

    Not4real!Secrets

    not4real!Secrets

    not4real! Secrets

    nôt4real!Secrets

    not4real!Sècrets

Still, you are facing any query, please provide detailed information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net. We are happy to help you.

    Hello Davy,

Please do not forgot the password which was used in the file encryption with the AxCrypt 1.x. Because you need the same password to decrypt the AxCrypt 1.x encrypted files in AxCrypt 2.x.

If you open files encrypted with a different password than your sign in password, which often is the case directly after upgrading to version 2, you will be prompted for that original password. If the file was encrypted with version 1, it will then be automatically upgraded to version 2 and to use the new sign in password which means you won’t be prompted again for the old password.

If you have any queries, please feel free to contact our support via support@axcrypt.net.
