Greetings, I have been an Axcrypt user for many years now. I recently upgraded to the new version. In the old version a password was required each time you wanted to open the file. Now, once open, it will open for anyone who clicks on it. Is this function gone? What use is an encrypted file if anyone with access to the PC can open a file without the password?

    Thank you for any clarification.

    Hello Jay Boatright,

I will explain AxCrypt how works.

AxCrypt 2 works just like your email software or most other password-protected systems. You sign in once and remain signed in until signed out. Just like you can read many emails without entering the password every time, AxCrypt will do the same. The files are still encrypted, but your password is remembered until you sign out of AxCrypt.

AxCrypt stays signed in until signed out, just like most similar applications such as your email. Once signed in, you can read, write and update information without having to re-enter the password, until signed out. AxCrypt will automatically sign out when the screen saver goes active(based on the Inactivity Sign Out configuration), or you can sign out manually.

You can use our Inactivity Sign Out feature, to sign out the AxCrypt app on certain time interval of inactivity. Also you can sign out the AxCrypt app, when opened the encrypted file(s). Now AxCrypt will ask the user to enter the sign in password to sign in to the AxCrypt app. For Inactivity Sign Out, File | Options | Inactivity Sign Out | Choose duration in minutes.

If somebody know your system password, so you can sign-out the AxCrypt app manually.

still, if you are asking any Queries, please write to Support@axcrypt.net. we are happy to help you.

AxCrypt encrypts files and folders with AES encryption. AES is very secure. However, the security of any symmetric key encryption system, such as AES relies on the secrecy of the encryption key.

But this does not work for me. I sign out of AxCrypt manually but can still access the encrypted folder????

    Hello PHILLIP,

Once you have sign-out the AxCrypt app. AxCrypt asks for the password when you open the files. Please try to open the folder inside the encrypted files.

If the above doesn’t help, please provide more information about the issue and some screenshots and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net.
