Until now, I’ve only used encryption for specific files.

But I’ve now tried folder level encryption which seems to work pretty well.   But I’ve only tested on some small folders that weren’t previously encrypted at all.   If I now try to encrypt a folder which has a mix of encrypted and unencrypted files what should I expect to happen, especially to the files that were encrypted already.   Will axcrypt see the axx file extension and avoid double-encrypting them?

    Any help appreciated.

    Tim,

I’m pleased to hear that you are using the “Secured Folders” security feature. Answering to your query, please be informed that if you have marked or added a folder as “Secured”, and add files onto it later, be it encrypted or not, AxCrypt will immediately know about it. If any of the files you add in non encrypted, AxCrypt will enable the broom cleanup icon for you on the application, otherwise no action required if you add an already encrypted (.axx) file onto the Secured folder.

    Happy AxCrypting!

@google baseball When you attempt to encrypt a folder containing a mix of encrypted and unencrypted files using AxCrypt, here’s what you can generally expect:

Encryption Behavior: AxCrypt should recognize files that already have the .axx extension (AxCrypt’s encrypted file extension) and will typically avoid double-encrypting them. This means that existing axx files should remain unchanged during the encryption process.
Unencrypted Files: Any unencrypted files within the folder will be encrypted as normal, resulting in them being converted to the .axx format after encryption.
Performance: If the folder contains a large number of files, the encryption process can take some time, depending on the size and number of files being encrypted.
Accessing Files: After you encrypt the folder, you’ll need to use your AxCrypt credentials to access both the newly encrypted files and any existing .axx files.
However, it’s always wise to back up your files before performing encryption, especially when dealing with mixed content. This way, if anything unexpected happens during the process, you won’t risk losing important data.

If you encrypt a folder, AxCrypt will apply encryption to all unencrypted files inside it but will leave existing .axx files untouched.
If you later add new unencrypted files to the folder, they won’t be automatically encrypted unless you manually re-encrypt the folder or enable automatic encryption (AxCrypt Premium feature).
