    Hi there

I was using Axcrypt 2.1.1489.0, but after a few weeks I am noticing it is not saving my changes after saving a file. I decided to go back to an older version of Axcrpyt which I like. I uninstalled version 2.1.1489.0, and now installed  version 1.7.3156.0.

I am now getting a “file format error – file probably corrupt or too big version difference”

How do I fix this without going back to the newer version?

    Regards

    Kirk

    Hello Kirk,

This is indeed so. AxCrypt 2 can open AxCrypt 1 files (and will upgrade them to AxCrypt 2), but AxCrypt 1 cannot open AxCrypt 2 files. This is clearly stated on the download page:

    AxCrypt 1 can't open AxCrypt 2 files

I suggest you download the *standalone* AxCrypt 2, decrypt the files, and then re-encrypt them with AxCrypt 1.
