Having enabled the 2FA authenticator app on my account, can I clarify whether it operates purely as a security feature against web access or should it also work when signing into the desktop app?

When logging into the website, I’m asked for password and 2F code, but if I sign in fresh to the desktop app, I can log in purely with e-mail and password, no 2FA code is required. Is that how it should function? Is 2FA purely a website security feature?

Thank you.

As follow up clarification, the desktop app has internet access, and after I signed in, it was left as online access. I normally run it offline only, but kept it online to verify the 2FA element.

Thank you.

As an update, I’ve discovered why, it was because I was using AxCrypt 2 software. AxCrypt 3 software correctly asks for the 2FA TOTP code on sign in.

Thank you
